THE SINFULNESS OF SIN
Is every death is deserved?
To Read: Psalm 110-112
To Know:
"Then the Lord said to Cain, 'Where is Abel your brother?' He said, 'I do
not know; am I my brother's keeper?' And the Lord said, 'What have you done?
The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground.'" (Gen.
4:9,10)
Spilled blood does not soak silently into the ground. Every sinner has
spilled blood. Sin deals in death. ".the soul that sins shall die." (Ez.
18:4) "For the wages of sin is death." (Rm. 6:23) This is a just universe.
Every death is deserved. Even the death of Jesus was the wage paid for sin.
The twist regarding Jesus was this, that it was our sin that earned the
death penalty, but Jesus willingly paid the price with his blood.
When Jesus came to save his people he received what they deserved. Our sin
nailed Jesus to wood where he was left to hang until he was dead. That day
Christ's blood ran down the stake into the ground. When Cain killed Abel,
the murder victim's blood cried from the ground for vengeance. Christ was
not like Abel. The Lord appealed to heaven for mercy on his torturers. The
blood of Christ shouted from the ground what Jesus called forth from the
cross. ".Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34)
