IMO, for any
religion
to have any meaning, there must be at least a semblance of belief
in a continued existence after the earthly body dies.
Why?
Just because something does not last for ever does not make it any less
special.
Thanks. That is a wonderful answer. It might also be said that God's

I agree. It is also true that sometimes belief in life after death
itself has been responsible for crimes. Therefore 1) yes, it is
possible to live morally without belief in afterlife, and 2) belief in
afterlife is no assurance of living morally in _this_ life.
