JESUS WILL NEVER GO AWAY
To Read: Galatians 1-3
To Know:
"When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he
said to his mother, 'Woman, behold, your son!' Then he said to the disciple,
'Behold, your mother!' And from that hour the disciple took her to his own
home." (Jn. 19:26)
What do you plan to do about the injustice suffered by Jesus Christ? On
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we saw how three people treated Jesus in
the flesh. Each in his own way was faithless. This morning we turn to the
disciple that kept faith with Christ to the end.
John followed Jesus to the end. As the Savior's suffering intensified John's
loyalty and courage never failed. John alone of all the disciples kept watch
while the cross took Jesus life inch by inch. The end drew near and one
piece of this worldly business remained. Christ had forgiven his enemies and
promised a place in paradise to the thief hanging beside him. All that
remained was to provide for his mother's future. As Mary's oldest son Jesus
was expected to entrust his mother's care to his brother James. James was
not yet a believer. Mary was. "Let it be to me according to your word," were
Mary's words to the angel Gabriel upon his announcement of her conception.
Jesus decided to place his mother in the care of a man of faith and not an
unbeliever. Surely we are at liberty to conclude that faith has placed John,
a fellow sinner, in a right relationship with Jesus Christ. Because Jesus
lives we are free to repent and receive the forgiveness of Christ for our
sins nearly 2000 years after those sins sent the Savior to the cross.
