Mark 4: 35-41 |
I would like to consider Mark 4: 35-41 (KJV)
<> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Mar 4:35 And the same day, when the even was come,
he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
Mar 4:36 And when they had sent away the multitude,
they took him even as he was in the ship.
And there were also with him other little ships.
Mar 4:37 And there arose a great storm of wind,
and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
Mar 4:38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship,
asleep on a pillow: and they awake him,
and say unto him, Master,
carest thou not that we perish?
Mar 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind,
and said unto the sea, Peace, be still.
And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Mar 4:40 And he said unto them,
Why are ye so fearful?
how is it that ye have no faith?
Mar 4:41 And they feared exceedingly,
and said one to another,
What manner of man is this,
that even the wind and the sea obey him?
<>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <><
First I want to thank Jesus for these words, that might lead many
of us to more peaceful waters... It is a very strong picture for me,
that helps me through all weathers, through all typhoons or snow
storms.
Secondly, I would like to ask you to talk with me about this passage.
What comes into your mind when you hear this? Does it appeal to
you and your life, maybe? Are you spoken to personally? Does it have
a relevance today? What does it say about our faith? What does it
say about Jesus? What about the disciples?
Can we really rely on Jesus even if times seem to become rough?
Any serious answer welcome...
Let us light some Sunday candles and think about it ...

Mark 4:35-41 (KJV)
That awesome act of Jesus stilling the wind and the sea was
a fulfillment of Psalm 89. The heavens were giving
testimony that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is The Son of the
Highest! He is the promised seed of David whose throne
is established for all generations to rule and protect His
people. The Psalm reads ...
"I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with
my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all
generations.
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever:
thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
***I have made a covenant with my chosen,
I have sworn unto David my servant,
Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne
to all generations. Selah. And the heavens shall praise
thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the
congregation of the saints.
For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD?
who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto
the LORD?
God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints,
and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.
O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee?
or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
THOU RULEST THE RAGING OF THE SEA:
WHEN THE WAVES THEREOF ARISE,
THOU STILLEST THEM." ***
Ps 89:1-9 (KJV)
Children of God, threatening circumstances will rise up
against us; but let us not be afraid. With faith in his mercy
and power we can say:
"Our shield is of the LORD,
and our king is of the Holy One of Israel." Psalm 89:18

It is a very important passage in that it appears in the Gospel that is
believed to have been writted first albeit AFTER the distribution of both
Hebrews and Pauls letters
It shows that even at the time of the destruction of Jerusalem by the
Romans Jesuses life and nature had already been extensively mythologised
and that the paganised Pauline cult had already come to dominate
Christianity.
The passage - of course is itself a parable that seeks to indicate that
Jesus was the master of the four elements of Greek Philosophy based
science - it is a poetic image that is not a representation of historical
fact.
This passage indicates to me that a Christian must approach his religious
texts critically and analytically, that he must look beyond the surface
mythologising to receive the underlying theological message - but that he
must not receive that uncritically either
The message that Jesus lives is itself an allegorical way of saying that
faith is not dead, that there are no absolute unchanging truths and that
theology in order to live must develop, adapt and change.
Jesus walking on water tells us that man must spiritually and physically
dominate his environment. This is a vital message for these times when to
conserve and to protect are choices that we make. We can conserve or
destroy the environment but we cannot avoid dominating it.
And that means to recognise that true freedom is experienced only by
people who are deliberately left alone.

Well some people can control the weather when in esoterics...
So why should God not be able to? Remember, He made all the weather. Well, and I have not yet tried out to walk on the water...
Where is that Scripture you referred to?

Then what is the problem waking on water, I use to do that all the time when
in Alaska. I have prayed for the weather to change to the Lord, and sure
enough it did. Many times, see it rain in places all around our town, and
not a drop where we prayed. Seen the rain, rain on only one side of the
street, while we had a meeting on the other. You limit Christ and His power
to Keep HIS word to HIS people. Which by your replies you are not.

I think you are confusing ICE and water. It is my understanding that the
Sea of Galilee never freezes and that there is no recorded incident of the
disciples ever hitting an iceberg resulting in their little vessel going
down like the Titanic

If you ever do perfect the raindance could you nip down to Melbourne?
They've been on water restrictions for ages and my mates dingo needs a
bath - smelly sort of a mongrel.
As for God's effect on the weather - how about fixing the Greenhouse
effect - and the Sahara could do with a drop of the wet stuff. A bit more
rain making the desert bloom would likely take the heat off the Holy Land
Which would set the HolyT. well up as front runners for a Nobel Peace
prize for a novel solution to an intransigent problem that is mostly their
fault.

A tall tale, told by evangelists to impress the gullible.
Does it appeal to you and your life, maybe?
No.
Are you spoken to personally?
No, I'm not delusional.
Does it have a relevance today?
No.
What does it say about our faith?
That you're gullible
What does it say about Jesus?
That he's a myth.
What about the disciples?
What about them?
Can we really rely on Jesus even if times seem to become rough?
No.
Any serious answer welcome...
I'm serious.

Hi John,
why have you got that idea? Have you reason for that?
I think it is completely illogical that the world consists of
those few things we can make out with our senses...
You seem to be a very reasonable person... What does
reason say where you will be after you have died? Any idea?
I mean, is it reasonable to think there will be NOTHING?
