Meet God for the first time in person |
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6251910.stm
Scientists in the US say they have taken a major step towards
producing life from scratch in the laboratory.
Dr Craig Venter says in the Science journal that his team successfully
transplanted an entire genome from one bacterium cell to another.
He says he hopes eventually to use the technique to create designer
microbes, which could produce artificial fuel or help clean up toxic
waste.
Dr Venter was a pioneer in mapping the human genome.
Organic tools
The ultimate plan is to stitch together artificial chromosomes,
proteins and other building blocks with the aim of jumpstarting their
designer microbe to life. But Dr Venter concedes that this may be a
long way away, but he says he has taken an important key step towards
that goal.
His team, essentially, snatched the body of another life-form and
invaded it with a new genetic code.
This, he says, will be a key tool in testing the artificial
chromosomes - or DNA bundles - he plans to make.
"What's in this paper is the result of taking a native chromosome from
one species," Dr Venter explained.
"That chromosome was transplanted, inserted through the cell walls,
the cell membrane of a second species and, after several days of
growth and cell division, the original chromosome in the cell
disappears and we have cells containing only the transplanted
chromosome."
Concerns
But there are those who are worried about what Dr Venter is doing.
Some fear the technology could be used to create biological weapons or
simply that something unforeseen may emerge from the laboratory.
Others are concerned that his institute's efforts to patent their
research could restrict scientific advances elsewhere.
But Dr Venter says he is doing nothing that other institutes do not
already do.
"Over the last several years we have had to develop novel techniques
and approaches that have not existed before because this field has not
existed before," he said.
"The Venter Institute and the Synthetic Genomics Company are doing
what most major institutions do - that is we file patents on these
unique techniques."

What proof do you have that Dr. Venter is homosexual? Legally, you
hjave just libelled a man who might be quite pleased to take you to
court and be awarded everything you own.
Frankly, the reason your religion has pretty much died out in so many
European countries is because people like you keep making stupid
statements which offend most thinking people; in particular Scots, who
tend to be well-educated and perceptive. This is one of those
occasions.
To me, the title "Pastor" is frequently a warning signal indicating an
unscrupulous criminal exploiting the credulous for his own financial
gain.
Perhaps you would be good enough to lay out your credentials for using
the title "Pastor". Of course you are under no obligation to do so,
but it will result in some of us assuming that you are just another
crook working a scam on your mentally confused adherents.
My take on Christianity is that it is one of the more vicious
religions, which does little but stir up hatred and discrimination, as
indeed your post makes clear. It preys on the gullible and the
ignorant, and has done more damage to the world than almost any other
human action. It offers a false comfort for those whose egos refuse to
accept that one day they will simply collapse and die when some
malfunctioning organ shuts down. It's a desperate grasping by people
who will not accept or believe that one day they will simply stop and
rot away in about three days if left to Nature to take its course and
they expire in a place where the sun can reach them.
Who would want to have anything to do with a God who is claimed to be
omnipotent, yet who never lifts a finger to stop the never-ending
brutal treatment and murder of innocent children; yet who says, "Bring
the little children to me!" like some pedophile looking for fresh
flesh to abuse; a God who is so psychologically disturbed that he
insists on being praised day and night throughout eternity like some
demented Nero.
Your God makes the horrors perpetrated by the likes of Josef Stalin,
Adolf Hitler and Attila the Hun fade into insignificance. Nobody that
evil would be allowed out of a padded cell in any civilized country.
Take your God away and cut his throat before he does any more damage.
And as for the so-called Messiah, Jesus, show us one shred of real
proof that he ever existed. The Romans, meticulous record keepers,
make no mention of him at all in the vast collection of records they
left behind, despite the ludicrous stories in the totally
unbelievable, self-contradicting fantasy you call The New Testament.
For example, Matthew 1, v.1 spends an entire page plus, exploring the
descent of Jesus from Abraham via the kings of Israel through the male
line. How can he be the son of God if he has all those male ancestors?
Any worthwile judge would toss that piece of evidence out of court on
the spot. I know what the intent was; to give him an aristocratic
genealogy but any court would refuse his claims on the grounds that he
was legally a *****, as his mother was claimed to have been molested
by a ghost, which take us into the realm of fairies and black magic.
I think you're a fraud and by the way, your attempt to denigrate
homosexuals for your own glorification reeks of someone who is having
his own problems with his sexual orientation. Just keep your hands off
the kids and you'll keep your name out of the sex offenders' registry.
Good bye, Pastor Dave. Good luck fleecing your flock!

Committing homosexual acts is a crime in God's eyes.

Dear Pastor Dave (a Pastor by the way folks is like a priest - only
without the formal study - they just call themselves that - so that
they have control over others).
Now as I was saying oh evil one, I am not Gay, my name is Gay (that's
a first name where I come from and it doesn't make you a Lesbian).
Sorry to spoil your sexual fantasy.
Now where was I - yes he is creating life - designer life. He isn't
creating the spark of life if you want to call it that but my
manipulating chromosomes he will be able to create designer microbes -
like in engineering. It's like creating a new species - that's not bad
for a start now is it. The creation bit from nothing will take a few
more years but I am sure that will happen too - you would have a long
wait though for evolution to take it's time.
You see oh evil one, there is no God of the bible - sorry to have to
say that but it's true. Likewise there is no devil either - so don't
worry - chill out a bit man.
It's kinda hard to take that we are here for no other reason but to
spread our genes - but that's it. There are many religions and they
are all bollocks - though there are some good things that can be
taken from them. However, we were not created by a supernatural being
of any sort. If however you wish to believe in fairies then go ahead -
we live in a free country ( at least I do - not sure about you).
