just wondering how some of you feel about, or understand scripture to
direct us on our choice of fellowship.
do you take it to be our duty to worship at the closest church? a church
in our town? or wherever we can be used best, be it thee towns away?

Hi Eric,
In my opinion, it is where you feel most comfortable. We have a family who
drives 60 miles to come to church--not because there isn't a church in the
town they live but simply because they choose to partake in worship at the
location of their chosing. I don't believe it is "where" we worship that
matters, but "how" we worship--in spirit and truth.
In the following Scripture, Jesus was talking to a Samaritan woman, and I
thought the question she asked was fairly similar to the question you posed
and will post it should you desire to read:
John 4: 20 So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the
only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount
Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?" 21 Jesus replied, "Believe me, the
time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father
here or in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans know so little about the one you
worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the
Jews. 23 But the time is coming and is already here when true worshipers
will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for
anyone who will worship him that way. 24 For God is Spirit, so those who
worship him must worship in spirit and in truth." 25 The woman said, "I know
the Messiah will come - the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will
explain everything to us." 26 Then Jesus told her, "I am the Messiah!"
God's peace to you,
:o)

We just moved and had to find a new church.
We looked first for churches that believed like us and had a vision /
mission that we could agree with. We did this primarily over the internet
before we moved to the new city. When we arrived we visited those churches
that we had selected. That took us about 2 months. Then we prayed. Two in
particular were possibilities at that point. As my wife and I discussed it
we were able to narrow it down to one. We met with the Pastor and discussed
things and had peace about making a decision. We attended their new
member's class where all of our questions were answered and we were still
happy, actually very happy.
Today we joined that church.

This is a good step forward. It acknowledges that there are other
Christians who do not believe exactly as you do.
Unity in Christ does not mean uniformity in Christ.

I go to the church where I was saved. If that is the point of a church, it
worked, so there I go.

Eric,
I should have added that we drive 10 miles to that church even though there
are many others between our house and our church.

The temple of God is within you, make sure you join that temple and make it
pure, sinless and clean, and worship God in spirit and truth before
socializing with others at a church made of stone.

When I first attended church as a kid, it was the church my parents
chose for us, because my mother had always been Methodist, that's where
we went.
We stopped going when I was eleven.
At 19, I accepted Christ for the first real time of my life, and began
attending a church I had been directed to. It turned out to be a
"Shepherding Doctrine" church that was 100% and completely into being
one's "personal Holy Spirit," in direct control of the lives of the people.
Praise GOD He got me out of there and into a nice little charismatic
church where I heard tongues for the first time in correct fashion. (The
other church had people speaking in tongues at random with no
interpretation and they were LOUD and confusing).
When we moved away from that area, we prayed for God to show us where we
should worship, since there wasn't a "nice little charismatic" church in
the area we moved to.
We ended up at a Christian Fellowship Church, then another one, and
finally, would up in a Conservative Baptist Church that left a lot to be
desired in terms of Spiritual gifts.
After a few years of watching things go down the tubes there, and
becoming completely selfish in my desires for "worship style" over God,
I left the church.
I wandered for about seven years until finally God pulled me back into
the fold using my then three year old son and a friend of mine in the
process. NOW, I am involved in an American Baptist Church.
It's very different than the other churches I had been involved in, and
I remember asking God, "LORD, PLEASE bring a Calvary Chapel to my town!"
Well, HE DID. But not until AFTER I had been firmly entrenched in this
one as a servant. *LOL* GOD put me where HE wanted me to be, ultimately,
and it had nothing to do with worship styles, charismatic or otherwise.
It had everything to do with HIS PLAN for my life, and so, with that in
mind, I would encourage you to ask Him where HE wants you to be. . .
In His Time, according to His Will for your life,
Love,
Feather

In His Time, according to His Will for your life,
Hi Feather, I just wanted to add a comment to your post in concurrence with
this last line.
You know we attended a church for about 15 years, and my daughter went to
the Christian school from grade 8-12, and it worked/fit our needs at that
time. Then about to years ago, began to feel unfilled. So prayed and
prayed and searched a bit and then was lead to a church about 3 blocks from
home where we call our church home now. We feel it is where God wants us at
this time in our life. Although we knew everyone at the old, had been on
the music committee, in the choir, school committee, etc., etc., it was
something that God moved in our spirits. I feel so much happier and fed
there. :o)
So I think timing and following God's lead is extremely important...prayer
VERY important!
:o)

Go where the Bible is preached accurately.

When Christianity becomes religion, that heart grows
