Object: New Religion
I am starting a new religion with the view (like all religious founders) of
making a few bucks on the side. I therefore would appreciate your input and
suggestions. Here is what I have already
The Religion is called 'Free Worship' and worships the free energy in the
Universe. Of course its not easy and people will have to pay for special
courses to find out how to liberate themselves and draw the free energy to
themselves and hence become enlightened.
I have of course banned anything remotely enjoyable in life ie sex is a
definate no no, as is consumpion of meat (vegetarian diet of c ourse). The
sisters will wear a white dress and the brothers a dull wrap around thingy
(I have yet to decide the details of the dress code). TV and going to movies
and shows will eb banned as will mixing with the opposite sex - except in
class.
Spicy food will be forbidden as this encourages sex-lust. This will make
things really bad since spicy vegetarian food is the only edible type.
They must get up for 4AM early meditation and then again at 6AM followed by
a reading from the sacred scrolls (yet to be written but they will turn up
at some point in the future - you'll see).
We will have an 'End of the world' time where all the spirits of the dead
arise and only if you have done all the expensive courses in Free Worship
(it's not really free now is it!) will you be able to avoid this time and
merge with the Free Energy.
There will be lots of CDs,Videos, books for sale in due course as we get
going. I am recruiting high priests at present and high priestesses.
I think I will get channeling into it somewhere to get more knowledge and we
desperately need rituals and soem alters to be designed + a logo. Any ideas?
I also need pricing - graded I would think, the more expensive the closer
you get to the Free Energy. We need a Guru from India to front it all up.
With a name something like
Shri Shri Shiv a mukti krishna devali.Being a religion it will of coruse
have to be the one true religion and hence we need an explanation for all
the false ones that are around at present.I will have to get Aliens into as
well - quite a big market there in the US - the abductee crowd. The idea of
're-birth' in the devine free energy will be foremost in the consciences of
the followers. I also need some Matras for chanting and some trinkets.

I suggest you read "Religion Explained", by Pascal Boyer. In this book
you will find what type of things are required for a religion to work.
My guess is that you have not carefully examined how religions
function, and there are some vital decisions you need to make that
require a good understanding of this.

Ok but has he started his own successful religion? What is his turnover?
It's ok to pontificate but what has he achieved outside of the classroom?

My guess is he's studied a lot more religions, much more carefully,
than you have. My advice is given assuming you are actually serious
about this...you might just be tugging our chains, as it were.

This one *must* be changed from:

to:

All great cults feature sex with the mystical long haired leader guy as a means
of reaching to a higher level.
Whale watching and communing with porpoises seems to be good for sucking em in
too.

I'd be careful if I were you. Scientology's shareholders won't take
competition lightly.

It is not a good idea. So far religions have only caused misery.
