Perspective of Disciple Gaius |
If we are to parrot, let us parrot God so that we get it right and
true. Quoting study bible notes, preachers and teachers who are only
passing on the human traditions of others is a waste if the teaching
is not clearly expressed in scripture inspired of God. Adhering to
some basic principles can help us hold to the truth and escape man's
empty tradtions. Look to God and he brings us through safe!
In my first post I used 4 translations: Revised English Bible, 1989;
Good News Translation, 1992; American Standard Version, 1901 and New
Revised Standard Version, 1989. This presents 2 word for word
translations and 2 phrase for phrase translations. If I find
substantive differences between the versions I look to see if they are
presenting various perspectives or are they in genuine disagreement?
Is it a difficult text with no solid agreement? I will be comparing
these 4 translations in the postings I hope to make.
Several principles of common sense should be kept in mind in bible
study:
1. Believe ONLY what is explicitly stated in scripture! Do not embrace
inference, assumption or implications as truth. See John 21:21-23
2. Let God's human penman define his own words or phrases. Lexicons
are not inspired by God, only useful as a starting point.
3. Do not 'cherry pick' versions or translations merely to prop up an
already held belief. Choose reliable translations without an agenda.
4. Keep in mind that a text out of context is a pretext, a vanity:
a. Watch the grammatical context, verse/chapter/book/covenant
b. Watch the historical context from scripture and secular sources
c. Determine scope of passage as to the intended recipients.
5. A topic must be studied entirely through its applicable covenant
6. God does not contradict himself. Express statements cannot be
reversed by faulty human inferences drawn from other statements.
Any readers who see God's hand in these posts, your prayers will be
greatly appreciated. May God be glorified and his name praised.

Hello Gaius:
You are too humble in your choice of handle Gaius...I think you meant
"Master Gaius", because you certainly don't sound like a

Greetings,
I am still alive, so I'm still learning therefore I am happy with
"Disciple". I have spent considerable time trying to post something
worthy of God's word and the faith. My aim is toward those that God
may be drawing or calling who are in 'seeking mode'. Using stewardship
of my time I will be quite selective of which if any Reply posts I
may answer. Thank you for the welcome.

You had me until you got to all the rules, but I guess some do need
them so as to be lead. Where I ferther wish to be guided by The Holy
Spirit and have that comfort in knowing the truth that I need is being
shown to me...

On Mon, 05 Mar 2007 23:34:41 GMT, (Disciple
Gaius) claimed:
If we are to parrot, let us parrot God so that we get it right and
true.
But is that what you parrot? Or do you parrot
the doctrines of men and are so brainwashed,
that you actually think that the Bible says what
you claim it does?
--
It is a sad commentary, when people sift the Bible through
their doctrines and their doctrines become absolute in
their minds and the Bible is manipulated and twisted up
like a pretzel to make it match their doctrines. This
happens because so many believe that the Bible is useless,
if it isn't all about them today. They deny that, but
why is it then, that their supposed fulfillments of Bible
prophecies that they preach, always end up being about
whatever is in the news lately and the news always
becomes, "The fulfillment of Bible prophecies right
before our very eyes!". And that folks, is Futurism!
Selfishness, conceit, ego, arrogance and vanity! (:
