New homosexual disease
Sunday, November 14th, 2004
In Europe CDC Issues Alert On New Disease Infecting Gays And Bisexuals
November 1, 2004 - The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued an alert to
health officials on October 29 on a rare venereal disease (STD) spreading
through Europe among homosexual and bisexual males. The CDC believes it is
just a matter of time before the disease reaches the U.S.
The disease is Lymphogranuloma Venereum (LGV), a variety of the Chlamydia
trachomatis bacterium. According to the CDC, this STD rarely occurs in
industrialized nations but has appeared in the Netherlands, Belgium, France,
and Sweden.
LGV has increased dramatically in the Netherlands, which typically has less
than five cases a year. During the 17 months preceding September, 2004, the
nation had diagnosed 92 cases. Thirty of these cases occurred in 2003 and 62
during 2004.
Of the 62 patients diagnosed in 2004, all of the patients were white and
among the 30 whose HIV status was known, 23 (77%) were HIV positive.
According to the CDC, "Other preliminary findings suggested that concurrent
sexually transmitted infections were prevalent and that the majority had
participated in casual sex gatherings (e.g., 'leather scene' parties) and
unprotected anal intercourse or other unprotected anal penetration (e.g.,
fisting) during the 12 months before onset of symptoms." The STD is
associated with genital ulcers and various gastrointestinal ailments.
The CDC also noted: "Estimates of the incidence and prevalence of LGV in the
United States are difficult to obtain; the disease is not nationally
reportable, and the diagnosis is not straightforward. The clinical
presentation of LGV might easily be missed, as evidenced by the large number
of retrospective cases identified in the Netherlands."
The complete CDC report is available in the October 29, 2004 issue of the
MMWR: Lymphogranuloma Venereum Among Men Who Have Sex with Men ---
Netherlands, 2003--2004.

Corinthians: so good they quoted it twice...
But seriously - if there is indeed an STD that affects only gay and
bisexual males, surely it must be the answer to the fundamentalists' most
vindictive dreams...
However, the reality is more prosaic. The New York City Health
Department* identifies Lymphogranuloma Venereum as a "sexually
transmitted disease (STD) or infection involving the lymph glands in the
genital area. It is caused by a specific strain of chlamydia". Its
highest incidence is "among sexually active people living in tropical or
subtropical climates. It has also occurred in some areas of the southern
United States."
From the same information sheet we see that the infection inflames the
lymph glands and that it can be treated with antibiotics.
So it certainly isn't a disease that afflicts only homosexual or bisexual
men - and given that it is dwarfed in terms of its effects by a wide
array of other diseases, it's hardly Wrath of God-type stuff, either.
But still - why let facts get in the way of a good story, eh?

we??? What are you? schizophrenic? Or are you the self appointed leader of
all jackasses!
A three year old retarded monkey could easily look up the studies I
mentioned via a google search. But since "you all" are too simple minded to
research the TRUTH let me spoon feed some of it to you.
Tests show prayer cures illness
Scientists seem to have shown what Christians have always known - that
praying to God to heal someone may get that person cured. Dr. Peter Fenwick,
a neuropsychiatrist from the British Institute of Psychiatry, told 400 top
scientists at the University of Salford in England about studies that showed
that patients who were prayed for had much better recovery rates, even
though they didn't know they were being prayed for.
One study looked at the effects of prayer on almost 400 cardiac patients.
Patients were not told whether they were being prayed for. Half were prayed
for by strangers who had only the patients' names. Those prayed for had
fewer complications, fewer cases of pneumonia, needed less drug treatment,
and left hospital earlier.
A study at Columbia University in New York asked people in Australia,
Canada, and the United States to pray for IVF patients in Korea. Among the
half who were prayed for, the success rate doubled. Dr. Fenwick said, "These
are very good studies, properly done. Subjects who are unaware they are
being prayed for can be significantly helped."
(The Sunday Mail, September 21, 2003 (p. 47).)
Love thy neighbor: You'll live longer
Giving can help you live longer, according to research from the University
of Michigan.
Psychologist Stephanie Brown of the university's Institute for Social
Research studied 423 older couples for five years. She found that older
people who lend a hand to friends, neighbors or relatives, even if it is
only helping around the house, reduce their risk of dying by nearly 60 per
cent compared to those who never offer help to anyone.
"Our results strongly suggest that giving makes a difference in terms of
health," Brown said. But what she found most astonishing was that one person
in four said they had done nothing to help anyone else during the entire
year. They hadn't offered to feed anyone's goldfish, water someone else's
potplants while they were away, or help a friend or relative. Even a simple
act like picking up their neighbor's newspaper would have allowed them to
answer in the affirmative, Brown said.
Jesus said the second great commandment was, "love thy neighbour as
thyself." There seems to be no end to the benefits of following biblical
advice.
(www.abcnews.go.com/sections/scitech/DyeHard/dyehard.html 2002)
Religious teens get into less trouble
Teens who attend religious services at least once a week, or who said they
have deeply help spiritual values, get into less legal and other trouble
than other adolescents, a new study has found.
The findings come from the National Study of Youth and Religion by the
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. They support earlier research,
even though most academics have ignored the religious connection. Study
director, Dr. Christian Smith, said: "We found that kids who go to church
regularly or who say that religion is important in their lives are much less
likely to be involved in various forms of substance abuse, get into trouble,
commit crimes, are less involved in violence."
They have fewer school problems and fewer difficulties with their parents.
Dr. Smith also said they are "more likely to behave safely, try to stay
healthy, and be involved in volunteering, sports, and community activities."
(www.youthandreligion.org, October 2002)
Add years to your life: Go to church!
It's official! If you regularly attend church you are 29 per cent more
likely to live longer. An analysis of dozens of previous studies that
suggested longer lifespans for churchgoers was done by Michael McCullough of
the National Institute for Healthcare Research. The studies he analyzed
covered nearly 126,000 people. Following his report published in Health
Psychology, a journal of the American Psychological Association, McCullough
said: "We think this analysis pretty much establishes that this correlation
of religious involvement and mortality exists, but also points to the need
for a lot more research to determine just how and why it has an effect."
(The Washington Times, June 5, 2000.)
Churchgoers live longer
Churchgoers live up to seven years longer than non-attenders, a University
of Texas study has found. Researchers found that life expectancy rose when
the number of church services attended increased. Those who attended every
week had a life expectancy of 82 years. This dropped to 79 years for those
who attended less than once a week, and for non-attenders it dropped to
about 75 years.
(The Sunday Mail, September 26, 1999 (p. 55).)
Church attendance lowers blood pressure
Regular churchgoers who also prayed daily or studied the Bible daily were 40
per cent less likely to have high blood pressure than those who did not,
researchers at Duke University in North Carolina found. The team did a
six-year study on 2391 people who were aged at least 65 years. David Larson,
of the US National Institute for Healthcare Research, said: "It shows church
attendance is better for your health. If they relied on TV or radio it isn't
as beneficial." The study also revealed that elderly churchgoers had better
mental health and were less likely to have high degrees of a protein
associated with age-related illness.
(The Courier-Mail, August 13, 1998 (p. 3).)

That is debatable. But "we" as used here refers to you and me - the two
people involved in this conversation. A fairly obvious interpretation,
from context. Perhaps if you were inclined to spend less time frothing
and more time thinking that one would not have gone over your head.
Incidentally, you have made the common mistake here of confusing
schizophrenia with the entirely unrelated "multiple personality
disorder". There is still considerable debate about whether the latter
condition does in fact exist. The former most certainly does.
A three year old retarded monkey could easily look up the studies I

Indeed. I will be interested to see you cite the study that proves that

Hmm. It is, as far as I can tell, notably difficult to find references
to, or accounts of, this experiment on non-religious pages. Having done
several varied searches and viewed a reasonable number of pages that
refer to the tests, I find that, without exception, each site has a
religious agenda of its own.
Has the experimental result been subject to non-biased peer review, and
has it been published in a medical journal?
Love thy neighbor: You'll live longer

This is unsurprising. The gratitude of others has a positive effect on
our own self-image, and a positive view of oneself has demonstrated
benefits on health.
Religious teens get into less trouble
Teens who attend religious services at least once a week, or who said
they have deeply help spiritual values, get into less legal and other

This, of course, doesn't mean anything unless a statistically-significant
difference can be found between the number of kids who don't get into
trouble who go to church, and the number of kids who don't get into
trouble who don't go to church. Has such a result been published?
Statistics, as we know, can say anything - depending entirely on how
they're presented.
Add years to your life: Go to church!
Ditto...
Church attendance lowers blood pressure
And again. What other factors were taken into consideration? What other
variables were measured? What was the distribution of the sample?
We can throw anecdotes and stories like this at each other all day, if
you want - it won't change the fact that the choice to go to church or
not go to church is nothing to do with 'mental stability' - it's to do
with belief. If you believe, you go to church. If you don't, you'd be
wasting your time.
A non-believer can live a long and happy life, and a believer can suffer
stress and depression and all manner of nastiness. With a third of the
world population claiming Christianity in 2003 I don't think a couple of
localised pet projects like these can really draw any serious
conclusions.

No. You just don't seem to be able to grasp basic English.
I think you should take your own advice and question your own basic
facts in a continuing loop. This would save 'us' from having to put up

You'd rather I chanted bigoted mantras instead? Go on - what is it that
particularly triggers your 'anti-liberal' sensibilities? Is freedom of
infection a liberal philosophy now, as well?
The fact is, you provided flawed information in your desperate attempt to
make a politico-religious point out of something that's solely
biological. LGV simply isn't the apocalyptic homosexual plague you want
it to be.
I do not give you enough credit to have more than personality. I think

Possibly so. They would be my mind's voice as I read the words contained
on that informative website; the one that refuted the dogmatic and false
claims you made for this particular disease.
You clearly speak before you think.
No doubt.
Here is your asinine logic at work. Christians comprise 85% of
Americans. But you discount any and all research as being bias. Do you
expect the Satanists to spend money on research determining how
beneficial the Christian belief system is?
No, indeed. I expect only those with a vested interest and a point to
prove to attempt to prove the point. But what scientific value is there
in such an 'experiment'? The result is a foregone conclusion, whether
the data truly backs it up or not.
The Sunday Mail is not a "Christian" publication. It is a news paper
you idiot!
I am in fact well aware of the nature of the Sunday Mail. I am also
aware that an item's appearance in a newspaper does not guarantee its
reliability.
...and Im sure the British Institute of Psychiatry is some hack
association, Huh?
I really couldn't say. Oddly enough, a Google search returns only
twenty-four matches on that phrase... None of which appears to be the
organisation's own website. Four make reference to this Dr Fenwick, four
to the Bible. Six to "Christian"; eight to "God".
I am sure there is a conclusion there to be drawn - but for now I will
settle for "I don't know".
Benefit of the doubt, and all that.
This is unsurprising. The gratitude of others has a positive effect
on our own self-image, and a positive view of oneself has
demonstrated benefits on health.
NO, no, no you have to reject this too? It was probably done by a
Christian scientist.....
Actually I didn't reject it. If you'd taken the trouble to read what I
said, I actually conceded it was likely to be true.
...and your scientific credentials are????
.... any better or worse than yours?(?????????????)
... so if you don't like the results you condemn the entire study, all
the researchers, scientists, the subjects and the medical journals
that report them....
...you are a typical liberal.
Hmm. Some research on the word 'liberal' would benefit you, I think...
But yes, generally speaking, if it seems clear that those who conducted
the research have a vested interest in proving one specific result, I'm
going to doubt the balance of the study and expect bias. You said
yourself that Satanists wouldn't do these studies - which in itself
demonstrates your own black and white image of the world and renders your
own view suspect.

1 Corinthians 6:9
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not
be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor
male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders

In Europe CDC Issues Alert On New Disease Infecting Gays And Bisexuals
November 1, 2004 - The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued an alert
to
health officials on October 29 on a rare venereal disease (STD) spreading
through Europe among homosexual and bisexual males. The CDC believes it is
just a matter of time before the disease reaches the U.S.
The disease is Lymphogranuloma Venereum (LGV), a variety of the Chlamydia
trachomatis bacterium. According to the CDC, this STD rarely occurs in
industrialized nations but has appeared in the Netherlands, Belgium,
France,
and Sweden.
LGV has increased dramatically in the Netherlands, which typically has
less
than five cases a year. During the 17 months preceding September, 2004,
the
nation had diagnosed 92 cases. Thirty of these cases occurred in 2003 and
62
during 2004.
Of the 62 patients diagnosed in 2004, all of the patients were white and
among the 30 whose HIV status was known, 23 (77%) were HIV positive.
According to the CDC, "Other preliminary findings suggested that
concurrent
sexually transmitted infections were prevalent and that the majority had
participated in casual sex gatherings (e.g., 'leather scene' parties) and
unprotected anal intercourse or other unprotected anal penetration (e.g.,
fisting) during the 12 months before onset of symptoms." The STD is
associated with genital ulcers and various gastrointestinal ailments.
The CDC also noted: "Estimates of the incidence and prevalence of LGV in
the
United States are difficult to obtain; the disease is not nationally
reportable, and the diagnosis is not straightforward. The clinical
presentation of LGV might easily be missed, as evidenced by the large
number
of retrospective cases identified in the Netherlands."
The complete CDC report is available in the October 29, 2004 issue of the
MMWR: Lymphogranuloma Venereum Among Men Who Have Sex with Men ---
Netherlands, 2003--2004.
