Pope John Paul rushed to hospital |
Pope John Paul II has been rushed to hospital in Italy suffering from
breathing problems and the flu, Vatican officials have said.
The 84-year-old pontiff has been suffering from the influenza since
Sunday and apparently suffered a "breathing crisis", an official said.
He has suffered from a frail state of his health in recent years and
has gone to a hospital "mainly as a precaution".

I don't know why they don't let popes retire. It must be dreadful
knowing that you are the one responsible for expressing the church's
outrage over the Iraq war with no energy left to do it.
"Never in human history have such genocide and cruelty been witnessed.
Such a genocide was never seen in the time of the pharaohs nor
of Hitler nor of Mussolini."

Let's hope they chose one with a modicum of humanity.

Tricky, given the possible candidates, though IIRC, at a pinch any
communicant member of the RCC can in theory be elected Pope, which may
be amongst the best reason for conversion!

I'd got for it, but I do like my Sundays off.
Maybe it would be a good idea if the next pope were a woman.
