Possible upcoming debate for me |
Since I relocated I have been looking for a new bible driven church to
attend. I started attending a church called First Baptist (But I plan to
check out some fundamentalist churches in the upcoming weeks). Today I
questioned some of the doctrine of this church (primarily their position
that women can teach Sunday school over men). The pastor whom I had a mini
debate with strongly encouraged me to debate with the church resident
scholar whom has a PHD in bible/theology. He said this after not having
answer my original question which was "If Women can teach over men, can you
show me in the bible where their biblical qualifications are mentioned?" The
qualifications for men are mentioned in 1 Tim 3.
I will be contacting the office and will like to debate with this man. I
have a BA in Church Education Ministries so I would be outgunned against a
PHD, and why I would not consider this a formal debate.
But I'd like to defend the bible and its teachings on women and their place
in His church.
John

Johnny, you will find that the resident PhD, will simply dimiss your
arguments, as the raving of the idiot that you are.
Your only bais for your stand are the writings of that apostate, Saul of
Tarsus!!
No one in their right mind believes anything that Saul of Tarsus wrote any
longer.
Didn't they teach you anything at that rinky dink college you went to??

Keep looking, there should be a congregation in your area that has
sexism as one of the chief tenants in their doctrine. I know it is
sometimes hard for people like you to find a congregation that will put
up with an outspoken sexist. But, don't give up. Remember the story
"The Little Engine That Could".
If you get frustrated in your search, get a punching bag to take out
your frustrations on. Don't take it out on your wife (if you have one)
she already has troubles enough to deal with.

John,
I think Hardees is giving out PHd's. You are more than qualified for
a PHd in Cheesy and with your PHd you would be his equal.

Glad you understand that a "BA" from a babble college is no match for
someone with a REAL Bible education, that is a Ph D.
You learned SOMETHING in babble college.
Haven't figured out quite what, yet.
And why you continue to post such in here where you have LITTLE / no
support is beyond me.
Perhaps you thrive on ridicule?
But I'd like to defend the bible and its teachings on women and their place

Wake up, BJ! There are MANY conservative scholars who do not agree
with your/ John Mac's position on this issue.
I frankly know few who DO agree, and I am betting the list of scholars
I know/have studied with would run circles around yours.

It was from an episode of "Bones" two of the male characters were arguing
and the forensic artist lady tells the Brennan character, "why don't they
just whip them out on the table and measure."
If you like forensic stuff, Kathy Reich's novels on which "Bones" is loosely
based are very good for the genre.

I watch "Bones." Pretty decent crime show, more realistic in some ways
than CSI. The characters are great, too.
Otherwise, not much out there to watch. I try to catch "Veronica
Mars," which is on at the same time as "Bones" so I tape those to watch
later. We are waiting for new episodes of "The Closer" and sometimes
we watch CSI just because there isn't a lot else on. The wife always
figures out whodunnit on CSI in the first 15 minutes of the show
because it's so formula but some of the character relationships are a
hoot.
Yep, when was the last time YOU ever saw a former Vegas showgirl in
charge of a crime lab based on forensic evidence? When was the last
time you saw the head of the crime lab interrogating suspects?
But TV is fast becoming another vast wasteland of copycats, this time
copying shows about forensic science.

It's a familiar cycle. A truly inventive show comes along, and hacks
set out to copy the unique bits, and replace all of the characters with
pretty people. I first noticed it with Homicide: Life on the Street,
but I suspect it's been going on longer than that.
