Islam fails the test!

I guess, after we all have died of STDs, the only ones left will be
Muslims. So you think we should mount another crucade and make sure no one
is left after AIDS finishes us off?

"THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH"
HIV hits 6,000 young people daily
UNITED NATIONS - Aids has become an affliction of teenagers and
young adults, with half of all new HIV infections occurring in 15- to
24-year-olds, a UN report released yesterday showed.
A SCOURGE
. Half of all new HIV infections in the world occurs
in those aged 15 to 24
. Every 14 seconds, a young person gets infected
. Most are young women living in the developing
world
. A single averted HIV/Aids infection is estimated
to save US$34,600 (S$59,900) for a poor country
Around the world, about 6,000 young people a day - or one every
14 seconds - become infected with the virus that causes Acquired Immune
Deficiency Syndrome (Aids).
Most of them are female, the report by the UN's Population Fund
(UNFPA) said.
The fastest spread is in sub-Saharan Africa, where about 8.6
million young people are infected. South Asia is next, with an estimated 1.1
million infections.
The fund's executive director, Ms Thoraya Ahmed Obaid, said
urgent action is needed to tackle this 'global catastrophe'.
'Aids has become a disease of young people, fuelled by poverty,
gender inequality and a severe lack of information and services,' she said.
The State of the World population report has been published
yearly since 1978.
This year's report, Making One Billion Count: Investing in
Adolescents' Health and Rights, focused on the risks and challenges faced by
the world's 1.2 billion adolescents, the largest generation of adolescents
in history, said The Guardian.
Poverty is a major factor in HIV infection, said the UNFPA, with
some girls in the poorest countries exchanging sex for money towards school
fees or to help their families.
Sexual inequality has meant that millions of young women do not
have the power to negotiate for safer sex or refuse sex, it added.
Providing accurate, age-appropriate sex education and
encouraging safe and responsible behaviour are critical to the prevention of
teenage pregnancy and stopping the spread of Aids, said the UN agency.
But 44 of the 107 countries surveyed did not include Aids
education in their school curricula, and young people are increasingly
receiving their knowledge from unreliable sources such as their peers.
Talking about sex is taboo in many countries, so many young
people do not know enough about the virus that causes Aids to protect
themselves. In Somalia, for example, only 26 per cent of adolescent girls
had heard of it.
More than 13 million children under the age of 15 have lost one
or both parents to Aids, the report added.
Ms Obaid said the report should act as a wake-up call for
everyone, reported the BBC.
'It is a wake-up call to increase funding and expand information
and services to young people. It is a wake-up call to support them so that
they can lead healthy, productive and dignified lives,' she said.
'The world can no longer afford to take half measures as Aids
wipes out growing numbers of the new generation.'
