Re: A Question
Why didn't Jesus write any of the Bible?
A very good question. if only we had something better than third-hand
(maybe second hand if one is generous in ones assumptions).
Of course, one possibility that explains it well is that Jesus did not
exist, and the stories of him were fiction.
Hello,
Or another possibility is that Jesus existed just as ancient
historians and writers such as Josephus, Justin Martyr, Suetonius,
Pliny, Tacitus, and many others testified to.
So if Jesus really existed, then why didn't he write about himself?
Here was my reply to the poster giving my opinion on that:
"My guess would be that testimony about a person by witnesses sounds
more credible than testimony by that person himself. Jesus wanted
people to let the works he did as well as the witnesses that saw such
things, testify about him. That principle is stated at John 8:54:
"Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My
Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me."
God was a witness to Jesus by permitting Jesus to perform all of those
powerful works he did etc. Other witnesses wrote about such things,
helping to show that the things Jesus said and did were not just
boastful lies, but actually happened. Thus there was more credibility
in having those things of Jesus written by others, than by himself.
Jesus did not want to "glorify myself", which is what would have
happened if Jesus wrote about himself.
Just my two-cents on the matter.
Sincerely, James
