I do not follow Kapleau's exoteric practice. I practice Mikkyo, which
apparently Kapleau or the Light in him teaches, as well. My practice
has enlightened Kapleau on a few points, for instance the connection
between Zen and ETI. Before his death, he visited me in dreams to see
my mandalas. I did go to Kapleau's ashram in Rochester after my
experience, and I had one dokusan, even though not a member of the
Center. I received a further koan. My initial experience was on "One
Hand Clapping." I left my body and entered the Light as Kapleau was
talking about one hand clapping. Kapleau did not formally test me,
although he offered to. My practice is so unconventional (for him)
that it did not seem appropriate. For me, it is all or nothing. I
have a shot at Anuttara Samyak Sambodhi. My experience is confirmed
by Buddhist scriptures, and if you were not so profane and hostile I
would explain that to you.

Too bad you didn't have the balls to get tested and have your
experience confirmed by a living Buddhist Master, the way it's been
done in Chan/Zen linneage since the Buddha held up a flower. Then you
might know what most here have easily figured out by reading your
posts.

I had many dokusans with Roshi Kapleau, but I'm not shooting for
anything at all, and I'm grateful I don't have to hear your opinion on
scripture.

I bet you never had kensho. I wonder why. Could it be because you
are a bigoted yenta, and Buddha don't like bigoted yentas?

The fact is, I tested Kapleau during dokusan. I had not yet accepted
him in any sense, so I had no reason to seek his judgment about
whether I was enlightened. I went there (to Rochester) to find out if
he met my criteria. He did not. He could not read my mind and kept
asking me dumb questions. I remained silent, waiting for him to
demonstrate that he could read my mind. If he could not read my mind,
I reasoned that it could not have been him who gave me the intimate
enlightenment experience. It must have been the Light within him or
all around him. I saw him circa 1967, when he had just returned from
Japan. Indeed, at that time he was a live wire. For all I know,
Yasutani or Harada or Maitreya or Gautama or even Sananda could well
have been the source of my experience. I saw Kapleau several times
after that, and he was always friendly and recognized me by name. We
spoke together as friends or Buddhabrothers. I have great affection
for Kapleau, but I never accepted him or any man as my Master.

One real semantic obstacle, the Master business.Because we think in
relaitvity, the term servant automatically appears.
Those that see as appropriate will seek a "relative" master.
The enlightened master is a master of life, not of others or relativity, and
he is able to recognise others who are where he has been, and guide them, as
he was guided, to their own jivan mukti, or spiritual liberation.
He also has a great sense of humor, because he can see how seriously the
advanced student takes trivialities, justas he did.
Thats part of the "aura of attraction" between master and impending master.
We feel it even befor we understand it.
