Re: Are God and chance mutually exclusive??
Consider this, chance , conceived either as the lack of a cause or as a
cause in itself, is incompatible with theism. As long as chance rules,
Arthur Koestler noted, God is an anachronism (cited in Sproul, 3). The
existence of chance tips God off his cosmic throne. God and chance are
mutually exclusive. If chance exists, God is not in complete control of the
universe. There cannot even exist an intelligent Designer.
Any one like to help out by pointing out the weakness in this statement?

Donald.

Donald,
Don't underestimate the powers of God. The Bible tells us that random
chance AND God can exist at the same time. 1 Sa 6:9,
"but keep watching it. If it goes up to its own territory, toward Beth
Shemesh, then the LORD has brought this great disaster on us. But if
it does not, then we will know that it was not his hand that struck us
and that it happened to us by chance." (NIV)
Sincerely, James

Or compeletely predetermined. Whatever.
Is Christianity merely moral masturbation?
I think we should be told.

So what? The Lord of the Rings tells me that Gollum will stop at nothing
to get the Ring. Both that the Bible are more or less pure fiction and
anyone who believes otherwise needs psychiatric help.

What a wonderful [..and convenient] cake and eat it scenario, adapted to
suit which ever position one wishes to take..
Of course chance exists... and that means good and bad eventualities are
brought about by chance. What doesn't exist is any evidence that the bible
is an accurate and real account of either jesus or indeed, a god. Quoting
text that derives from this bible will not make it any more accurate or real
in its account of this world. When good or bad eventualities transpire, it
is not a god that dictated them... not a chance!
