Re: Best study bible?
Does anyone have any recommendations for a REALLY good study bible?
NIV would be my first choice, as far as bible versions go, but I
welcome all suggestions. TIA.

Cory,
It depends on what you are after. If you like ancient Shakespearian
English, it would be the KJV. (King James Version) If you want
accuracy, you can't beat the NWT. (New World Translation)
Here is one example. Look up Ex 6:3 in the NIV Bible. It reads:
"I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by
my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them."
They just called God a liar. The word "LORD" is a title, not a name.
God has a name that is recorded in the OT over 6000 times. And it is
not "Lord".
But the NWT is more accurate in that verse. Since the divine name is
found there is the oldest Bible documents, it should read more like
this way:
"And I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty, but
as respects my name Jehovah I did not make myself known to them."
Now God is not a liar. God has a personal name, which this translation
uses the translated word into English as "Jehovah". Some prefer the
transliterated form (before it is translated) of "Yahweh". But the
point is that an accurate Bible should use some form of God's personal
name there, not just a title.
Thus as far as accuracy goes, the NIV already has nearly 7000 errors,
since it has deliberately removed God's person name from all of its
thousands of OT occurrences, and INSERTED the word "Lord" in its
place.
I hope you will consider these things when looking for your "REALLY
good study bible".
Sincerely, James

Get serious.
The New World Translation is a cult rewrite by the JWs.

The best study bible is the New Catholic Study Bible, St. Jerome edition.

There are at least 18 English versions alone of the Bibles.
How do you KNOW which is the correct one? They are all just books of myths,
fables, implausible and impossible tales written by 55 ancient men of
totally unknown veracity.

Hey, willie, the difference is in translation, not interpretation. All the good
juicy parts about man's soul and it's salvation are the same.
