Heretics may well be Christian heretics. But apostates have abandoned the
faith and phonies are...well...phonies.

I get the impression that Paul was at least a little bit nuts and that
he and his followers defined Christ's message to their own liking.
On the other hand, wasn't it he who said: "The written rule kills,
the spirit gives life"? (Cor.3)[There are variations on this: I have a
Marionist bible that says "The letter kills...)

I think Paul was quite a bit nuts, but otherwise I am in complete
agreement with thee.

As long as you claim to be a member of the group, you are orthodox,
heterodox or heretical. Apostates don't claim to be a member of the
group, though they may claim that their new revelations subsume the old
group in the new.

===>"Apostate" is a designation by the group they have left.
But that does not mean they cannot consider THEMSELVES
even MORE Christian than the parent group. In fact, as seen
in the literature and comments of many Protestants, the consider
CATHOLICS to be "apostate".
Oh, well......... -- L.

I understand that. I was trying to be minimally prescriptive. Some
protestants may say otherwise, but then they are just being Humpty
Dumpty. Catholics are Christians and anyone who claims otherwise is
either getting out the bagpipes for pointless person argumentation or
they don't know what Christianity is.
