...and send it back to them with a note in support of the Salvation Army.
Tell ALL your family and friends!!
As they saved our (my wife and I) Christmas a number of years ago when we
were stranded homeless (a bad storm destroyed our house) in the Philippines,
with presents, food basket, and a loan to rebuild our "nipa"(grass roofed,
bamboo home)... we have reason to donate our support in this !

I have a reason to support the Salvation Army too. When my late
brother-in-law was coming back from the front lines in Korea many years ago
the Red Cross was SELLING coffee and donuts. The Salvation Army was GIVING
away coffee and donuts.

Send them a check for a meaningful amount. Separate the issue of
soliciting in front of stores from the good work they do.
We have a Salvation Army "Giving Tree" at work, which I do every year,
giving far more than I'd drop in a kettle.
Retail stores are being bombarded with fake charities collecting money
in front of the exits. They cannot discriminate, and Target got caught
in this. Wal-Mart always has the fake charities hanging out in front of
the store, and it's annoying that they're essentially stealing money,
and annoying that people are dumb enough to donate to them.
Yes, the Red Cross takes a lot of for selling food.
