...the U.S. (Babylon)
The Woman Babylon of Revelation 17 would be more than
the United States, for it says: "Here is the mind
which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven
mountains, on which the woman sitteth. And there are
seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the
other is not yet come" (Revelation 17:9-10). The
Woman Babylon sits upon all seven mountains, which
could correlate with all seven kings. The five that
had fallen by the time of John the Apostle could have
been the five empires that had fallen by that time;
Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, and Greece. The
empire which was in the time of John was Rome. The
one not yet come could be the Empire of Islam with
its various Caliphates. If the Woman Babylon sits
upon all of these Empires, and she is "That great
city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth"
(Revelation 17:18), could she then represent the
capital city of each of these empires over time?
In the following passages the capital city of the
Assyrian empire, ancient Ninevah, is referred to in
a way similar to the Woman Babylon: "The multitude
of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot... that
selleth nations through her whoredoms" (Nahum 3:4),
"The great ***** that sitteth upon many waters, with
whom the kings of the earth have committed
fornication" (Revelation 17:1-2). "The mistress of
witchcrafts, that selleth nations" (Nahum 3:4), "By
thy sorceries were all nations deceived" (Revelation
18:23). "Woe to the bloody city" (Nahum 3:1), "For
upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed
continually?" (Nahum 3:19), "In her was found the
blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that
were slain upon the earth" (Revelation 18:24). "The
fire devour thee" (Nahum 3:15), "Burn her with fire"
(Revelation 17:16).
If the Woman Babylon was Ninevah during the Assyrian
empire, could she before that, during the prior
Egyptian Empire, have been "Populous No, that was
situate among the rivers, that had the waters round
about it"? (Nahum 3:8-9), "The great ***** that
sitteth upon many waters" (Revelation 17:1).
And what about after Ninevah fell, could the Woman
Babylon then have become Ancient Babylon: "That
sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside
me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I
know the loss of children" (Isaiah 47:8), "She saith
in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and
shall see no sorrow" (Revelation 18:7).
And then after becoming the capital cities of the
Persian and Greek empires, could she then have become
the city of Rome, "the city on seven hills"? "Seven
mountains, on which the woman sitteth" (Revelation
17:9). And then did she become the capital cities of
the Empire of Islam's various Caliphates?
And what if those were only her roles as the capital
cities of empires? Could she also represent ancient
powerful cities like Tyre? "The mariners, and all the
pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships,
they shall stand... and shall cry bitterly... What
city is like Tyrus" (Ezekiel 27:29-32), "And every
shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and
sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning,
saying, What city is like unto this great city"
(Revelation 18:17-18). "I will cause the noise of thy
songs to cease; and the sound of thy harps shall be
no more heard" (Ezekiel 26:13), "And the voice of
harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and
trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee"
(Revelation 18:22). "Thou shalt be no more; though
thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found
again" (Ezekiel 26:21), "And shall be found no more
at all" (Revelation 18:21).
The destruction of ancient Tyre was to serve as a
lesson for the whole earth: "Who hath taken this
counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose
merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the
honourable of the earth? The LORD of hosts hath
purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and
to bring into contempt all the honourable of the
earth" (Isaiah 23:8-9). What would be "the crowning
city" economically in these days? New York City?
And the Woman Babylon is also the preeminent
political city: "The woman which thou sawest is that
great city, which reigneth over the kings of the
earth" (Revelation 17:18). What great political city
today could be said to reign over all the nations of
the earth? Washington DC?
And the Woman Babylon is also the preeminent city
for religious persecution: "And in her was found the
blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that
were slain upon the earth" (Revelation 18:24). What
great religious city that still exists today could
that have been said about? Jerusalem? "For it cannot
be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem" (Luke
13:33). But how can it be only Jerusalem, for weren't
many saints killed in many other cities throughout
the earth?
And how could the following be said about a destroyed
New York City? "And the merchants of the earth shall
weep and mourn over her, for no man buyeth their
merchandise any more" (Revelation 18:11). Don't many
other cities besides New York City buy huge amounts
of merchandise?
Could the Woman Babylon then represent not just one
city, and not just different individual cities here
and there throughout time and throughout the earth;
could she represent the entire economic, political,
and religious systems of all times and places which
have been and are today ungodly? Could she represent
Man's Godless Civilization, his worship of Money,
Power, and False Religion?
The Antichrist and his ten kings "shall hate the
*****, and shall make her desolate and naked, and
shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire"
(Revelation 17:16). This could happen right before
the second coming of Jesus Christ. When Satan knows
that Jesus is about to return, Satan could see to it
that all the cities of the world are destroyed with
the "fire" of nuclear weapons, so that almost nothing
will be left for Jesus to return to; it could be
Satan's literal "scorched earth" policy: "That made
the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities
thereof" (Isaiah 14:17). Satan could convince the
Antichrist and his ten kings that "the time has come
that the whole world must be cleansed by fire so that
we might make a fresh start and build from scratch a
brand new civilization based upon the worship of the
true God", by which he would mean himself and the
Antichrist.

It 's a bleeding legend, stupid
Not a prophecy of anything

Wrong assumption:
The definition of Babylon is clearly given in the Scripture and
prophecy. Babylon is a nation, and the term "Babylon" is used to
identify a Nation. The root of that metaphor was the richest, most
powerful and corrupt nation of her day, and she ruled all the known (in
her time) World.
Therefore, that nation at the time of the return of the Lord, which is
the richest, most corrupt nation, which is the most powerful nation of
her day and which in her day rules the world, IS Babylon.
THAT Nation is the United States of America.
As for "seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth"; this is another
metaphor.
The United States has dominated (sat on her hills") Ancient Rome which
will be Modern Rome since the defeat of Nazi Germany, and has dictated
terms to Europe for over a full generation. (1945-2007=62 years, and
counting.)

Metaphors are fun aren't they?
Especially when you make them look so big.
I've always thought them to have hidden meanings but
much more personal and up close.

That explains why Bony M came up with the song "By The Rivers if Babylon"
:-)

Whatever happened to the hanging gardens of Babylon? I wonder at the
wonderful wonder.
Cheers.

That is a metaphor, right :-)
I've always thought them to have hidden meanings but
much more personal and up close.
They may mean both, one, or either.
Like any communication from our lips or our pen (or keyboard) the
meaning of the message is determined by the creator of that message.
When I say something to you, I know what meaning I mean my words to
convey. Now, I may be quite skilled in the use of language, grammar and
terminology, or perhaps fairly unskilled -- still, smart or dumb, as the
original creator of the communication I determine the meaning.
Same with you: I _MUST_ give you at least the minimum credit of your
thinking you know what you mean to say, and I should, in the minimum,
accept that, skilled or unskilled, you did your best to express what you
intended rather than something you did not intend.
If I reinterpret your words to suit my thoughts and point of vies,
without attempting to consider your intended meaning, then I am
falsifying your words -- and how can I understand what you meant to say?
If I can't or won't understand your intended meaning, and you can't or
won't understand my intended meaning, then you and I can not communicate.
Sure, and certainly, a metaphor may have many meanings -- however, the
metaphor must at least mean what the speaker intended...
Perhaps, if we care to know what the speaker or writer intended to say,
we should not attempt to impose our thoughts or expectations over theirs.
Still, if someone LIKES taking someones words -- without considering
their intended meaning -- and using those words as a launch pad to head
of in a myriad of random directions - hey, have fun!

You are seriously NUTS if you believe that crap
This isn't Christianity
It is sheer unadulterated "pottiness"
The United States appears nowhere in the Bible
Nobody had ever heard of it then apart from the poor sods living in it
And the Old World would have been very sensible to have "left it where it
was" in the hands of them wot owned it already
dear oh dear oh dear
