It was decided that the gentiles shouldn't be forced to live
by the burden of Moses Law nor the jewish culture.
Forced by who? Who do you think would dare try to
enforce some Jewish religious dietary and other laws on
people?
We should also consider that the community in Jerusalem depended
upon Paul raising money from the gentiles for their relief. It
would be against their best interest to impose restrictions upon
gentile converts.

But look at the alternative.
The sure fire was to remedy public educated is to make it
obligatory for all elected officials to send their children to
public schools. Few of them do. Once it involves their own
children, they will change it fast.

My niece just graduated yesterday from high school with a 4.0+ grade
point
average, she had taken college classes from the time she was a jr. She
has a
full scholarship to a university out there in Ca. and is starting as a
freshmen with like 6-12 credit hours or more already banked. She is
going to
major in Chemistry with Math as a minor. Is she a bright kid, I suppose
so
but more then that she didn't ***** around with drugs or drinking, she
worked
her ***** off studying and became a ranked statewide swimmer. Are we
turning
out a lot of idiots? Yes we are. Can you succeed in public education
system,
you bet your ***** you can and thousands of kid do it all the time, we
need
some balance here. I know bashing everything America is all the rage but
most of it is are very distorted views and opinions, nothing else. Hell
were
so cool we've lower total pollution around here by 10% over the last
decade
or so. We are a great country. God Bless American and Sara, where ever
you
are your uncle is proud of you.
Zaphod
PS. You know one of the things that helped her? Was her parents believe
in
God and lead a spiritual based life. So if that makes her delusional
then so
be it. It in part has made her honest, hard working and a great human
being.
Once again, thinking all theists are deluded is not better then them
thinking you are going to hell.
===>CONGRATULATIONS.
She is an obvious exception.
Oh, and don't be too surprised or hurt if she gets a good education and
becomes an non-theist. -- L.
I wouldn't care if she was a Christian, non-theist or something in-between,
I'm just happy that she's a good kid and going to college and will likely
graduate. I hope regardless of what she ends up believe that she it happy.
Also your statement seem to imply that getting a higher education or a good
education will somehow straighten one out to where they don't believe in
God. Many very smart people, highly educated believe in God. I know that
pisses a lot of Non-theist off, I mean how can you be a world class
scientist and still believe in God? Well there are ones and they do, I guess
no matter how brilliant you are you can still believe in God and be a
deluded fool.

Physics shows us that this multiverse can exist, but we cannot
interact with other universes and thus cannot prove their existence.
Therefore speculating on the nature of these other universes is a
useless endeavor best left to the arts, or perhaps theology.

Well once again considering I don't even know what "Cosmic Totality" is, I
was going to get around to asking about that.
My dictionary gives at least these three meaning for the word "Belief"
1.. Mental acceptance of and conviction in the truth, actuality, or
validity of something: His explanation of what happened defies belief.
2.. Something believed or accepted as true, especially a particular tenet
or a body of tenets accepted by a group of persons.
3.. Knowledge or information based on real occurrences: an account based
on fact; a blur of fact and fancy.
a.. A fact is
1.. Something demonstrated to exist or known to have existed: Genetic
engineering is now a fact. That Chaucer was a real person is an undisputed
fact.
2.. A real occurrence; an event: had to prove the facts of the case.
3.. Something believed to be true or real: a document laced with mistaken
facts.
If something is demonstrated to exist or known to have existed and you claim
to know this existent thing (fact). Then I would say you have a mental
conviction in the validity of the fact(You believe it to be true). If it is
demonstrated that is fact is information that is based on real occurrences
i.e. I got robbed of all my money today so the fact is I have no money then
(you believe it to be true.)
So once again to say I know something is a fact but it isn't a belief it's a
fact is just playing word games. Ok you don't have a believe system you have
a system of 100% facts. It is the same thing either way.
The differences are only being asserted in my opinion because just like old
Dave and Frank wanting to call themselves pastor, people can say they I
don't have beliefs but facts which imply more authority because everyone
knows a fact is more likely to be true then a belief. It another cheap
trick. Sort of like saying "Why can't you seem to understand this?" Imply
that the person your talking to is stupid.
Just because anyone jumps up and says hey, it's not that I don't believe
this, I know its a fact. Doesn't me that their fact is true or valid, it
could be a belief or opinion.
Using common definitions of the words could you assert that you know a fact
is true but that it isn't something known to have existed or does exist or
that it was a real occurrence?
These sort of word and power games are foolish.

It's not that broken. I understand a lot of French kids spell that
way. Anyway, it's Je ne croix pas, je sais. All you're guilty of is
phonetic spelling <g>
I must admit this conversation is mystifying. Why give a confusing
name like "cosmic totality" to all that is? That seems to invite a
misunderstanding. Cosmic totality sounds like New Age woo-woo about
the connection between all souls. (Which they call 'holistic' even
though it is actually dualism.) In fact you say you're talking about
all things, ie, all matter and energy in the universe, which is a
strictly materialistic, monist concept.
It seems to me that this sort of terminology is bad news.
-Hypatia
PS--It just occurred to me that Je ne croix que je sais might be an
even more interesting statement.

About two months ago a neighbor of mine used the argument that
there is no proof that God did not exist, therefore it was
illogical for me to claim that there was no god.
Which would be "There are x Gods" (with x = 0)? As I told Dixit,
the best thing you can do is to wait, until someone else makes a
statement like this.
If you claim it yourself, you have a problem...
In one of my most brilliant moments, I did not argue with him.
That surprised him. And me.
He was even more also surprised when I told him that I now have
over ten million dollars in assets. We live in the same condo
complex, and he knows my style of living. He was sure I was
lying.
Except that the existence of ten million dollars is something
that can be proven. I couldn't prove the full ten million right
then, but I told him that if we went to the computer, connected
with the _______ _______ bank website, entered in my I.D. and
password, we could go to "account balances" and he would see that
I had over three million dollars in stocks and bonds right there.
The existence of the three million dollars was enough to prove
to him that my word is good, and I had over ten million dollars
in assets.
Or it would have proved it to him if I took him to the computer
and did as I said. But I didn't. Therefore he won't believe me.
But he can't prove that I don't have ten million dollars.
Is that logical?
No one except yourself could give proof you _do_ have the money.
Thus, no one can give proof you do _not_ have it, either. But it
might change your reputation, with or without proof.
Is that logical? Dunno... ;)
