Eternal Life-Earned or Gift?

The RCC teaches that eternal life is a merited reward:

CCC
1821- "..to obtain the joy of heaven, as God's eternal reward for the GOOD
WORKS ACCOMPLISHED..."

Bible
"For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the GIFT of God:

NOT of WORKS, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8,9).

Do you listen to men or do you listen to God?

Ar you working to obtain eternal life (which you wil never obtain) or are
you trusting God in His promise?

Hello,

True, humans cannot earn eternal life only on their own merits. That
is a gift from God, by means of Jesus Christ. But that "gift" will not
automatically be GIVEN to everyone. For a fact, that gift is available
to everyone who reaches for it, but not everyone will receive the gift
(eternal life) itself. Jesus talked about this at Mt 24:13,

"But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved." (NASB)

Or we can say it in the reverse order:

'But the one who does not endure to the end, he will not be saved.'

Thus salvation (eternal life) is conditional. One has to "endure to
the end" to receive that gift.

(by the way, those in that alleged 'hellfire' place, also have eternal
life. Did they also receive that "gift"?)
