You really need to be introduced to the Person who led Christians *before*
there was a Bible, He is known as the Holy Spirit !

YES, the Scripture is inerrant.

If so, why so many mistakes?

Mistakes in translation do not make it errant, Jude. Humans make the
mistakes, not God. :)

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness

"and is useful for"
"and profitable for"

We are told useful (profitable) for, but not 'perfect for' or 'essential
for'

I believe that by God's design, scripture is perfectly imperfect.

It plays a great part in profiting the believers life for the reasons
given
above, but designed in a way that we need to seek the Spirit of Truth.
For
we need the Word and Spirit working together.

If we can put it this way, as Christians we (as far as the new life) are
perfectly made, but we are designed to need each other. We are not
individually made to be the whole package. This is something we
erroneously
expect from the elders and deacons, pastors etc: We are designed to
supplement each other in what we lack as individuals.

If the Scriptures were perfectly perfect (the whole package), we would
not
seek the Spirit of God as we ought.

Vic, may I add two things to your comments:
First: If that book which we call the Bible were literally perfect, that
would be the perfect PHYSICAL proof that God exists. But God wants His
People to live by faith, not absolute physical proof.

The Bible is physical proof that God exists.
So was Jesus. Didn't you know that?

But by your reckoning, if the Bible is all correct,
that means that we can't live by faith. So we
need a Bible with errors, according to you,
in order to have a proper faith.

Faith in what? Don't tell me God, because the Bible
is where you learned of Him and of Jesus and of
the Holy Spirit.

So tell us Glenn... How are we to know what is true
and what isn't, in the Bible? If there are errors, then
who is to say where? You? You seem to have set
yourself up as the judge of God's word.

Second: If the Bible were perfect, then it would -- as indeed it has in
some cases -- become an object of worship.

That would be like saying that reading and believing
a book about the Civil War means that you worship
the book. It seems to me, that you're the one who
wants to be worshipped.

As I said, in order TO correct, it must BE correct.
