Re: Is torture ever justified?
Torture is never justified! The Geneva Convention is clear on this. The
Bush Admin's re-tooling these agreements will lead to more attrocities
not less. We will need to give cyanide pills to all U.S. troops!
Hello,
Yes, most humans agree that "Torture is never justified!". Yet many
belonging to Christendom believe that God tortures bad humans forever
in a 'hellfire' place. Well, what is it, either torture is justified
or not?
Those who have studied the Bible in depth, know that God does not
torture ANY thing; human or otherwise. That because "God is love". (1
Jo 4:8)
When have you ever seen a sane loving person "torture" another one?
The word "love" does not include 'torture'. The two are incompatible.
Now if loving humans would not torture another person, how much less
would the being having the greatest love of all, torture a person? God
would not and does not!!
But what about all those Scriptures talking about people being tossed
into a fire etc? The Bible is loaded with symbolism, and that is the
case here. For just one quick example that the "fire" is symbolic,
notice what is tossed into it at Revelation 20:14, and ask yourself if
such things can be tossed into a literal fire.
If you want more information on the false and degrading to our loving
God teaching of 'hellfire', just ask.
Sincerely, James

***Though your argument contains errant Orthodox theological thought, I for
one appreciate your rationality. Keep up the good work..
