Heeeeyyyyy Mr. Wilson!
I've read your note, filched from "The Nation," which you cross-posted
to several groups. I hope that these groups will tolerate my
cross-posted reply.
I have relatives with Parkinson's Disease. I know all too well both the
herky-jerky and the freeze-up stages of the disease. I do keep abreast
of what is happening in Parkinson's Research.
Part of what the unidentified writer from The Nation wrote is correct.
Fox has stepped into the political arena to support two Democratic
senatorial candidates. However, that write is not apprising readers of
all of the facts. Fox did not take his medication before taping his
commercial for McCaskill (I've not seen the ad for Cardin), just as he
does not take it when he has to testify in front of Congress or other
public funding entities when asking for research dollars. Moreover, the
proposition on the Missouri ballot for which Fox urges people to vote
deals with cloning, despite mentioning stem cells in its title. It is
the painting of the cloning measure as a stem cell research initiative
that piqued Limbaugh's objection. That Fox states in error that
McCaskill's opponent, Jim Talent, would criminalize stem cell research
is demonstrably false. He has never voted to do so while in public
office. Presently, Missouri has both adult and embryonic stem cell
research happening at UMo and at Washington University.
It is a shame that Fox, who has been very generous with his own money
for Parkinson's research, should stoop to misinform the public in the
McCaskill campaign. Limbaugh has said that Cardin is one of the few
Democrats who voted against embryonic stem cell research. However, as I
said, I have not seen Fox's commercial endorsing Cardin, so I do not
know whether he has done anything other than say he prefers Cardin over
Steele.

Limbaugh's Cruelty

Rush Limbaugh has proven time and again what a nasty bully he can be.
Remember his feeble attempt to insult Chelsea Clinton by criticizing
her appearance when she was just a child? And his racist musings on
whether black men were equipped to play quarterback? (FYI, Rush, at
least five African-Americans are starting quarterbacks in NFL right
now.)

This week however, Limbaugh sank to a new low by mocking actor Michael
J. Fox and his battle with Parkinson's disease.

Fox has become a Limbaugh target because he has appeared in political
ads for Democratic senatorial candidates who support stem cell
research, such as Rep. Ben Cardin of Maryland and Claire McCaskill in
Missouri.

"He is exaggerating the effects of the disease," Limbaugh told
listeners Monday. "He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely
an act...This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn't
take his medication or he's acting."

Limbaugh ultimately offered a half-hearted apology, but it's difficult
to take this seriously. With a weekly audience of 10 million, he lives
to generate this type of controversy. He and Ann Coulter seem to be in
a competition for who can be the most consistently repugnant and
woefully ignorant.

With his acting career essentially over, Fox now works to raise
awareness of the plight of people who suffer from Parkinson's. Even if
Limbaugh objects to stem cell research, it certainly isn't a crime for
Fox to weigh in on the issue. Muhammad Ali has done this admirably. So
did the late Christopher Reeve. Will they be the next to draw
Limbaugh's vindictive ire?

But don't you feel safer with Republicans in power? They recently
insisted that the nuclear plans and experiments of the pre-gulf war Iraq
nuclear program be published on the internet.
If it weren't for that bastion of latte liberalism, the NY Times, we'd
still be able to download all those intelligence documents.
But thanks to the common practice of cache-ing (Yahoo, webcrawler) pages
from the internet we can still acquire those plans if we really want them.
That way we can ALL have our won nuclear weapons! I will never fear
anyone ever again, once we have everyone on the planet achieve nuclear
parity no one will dare cut me off in traffic!
And I don't know why the demos have to get all riled up about all the
Abramoff stuff, or that Republican congressman are schtupping the pages,
or buying drugs from their male prostitute boyfriends, or beating the
crap out of their Peruvian mistresses. After all it is ALL Clinton's
fault, and the New York Times.
That Rush Limbaugh is not a hypocrite, either. It has never been
actually proven that he consumed and sold drugs, or anything like that.
Clinton could've been behind that as well. No one can prove he isn't.
