Where did you get that little tidbit of "history"?

Uh, from long years of study on the subject since it's of particular
interest to me?

So who were the Nephilim ?

Hello,
Apparently they were a hybrid resulting from the mating of disobedient
angels with human females. Notice the Scriptural reasoning to follow.
First Ge 6:4 reads,
"The Neph'i·lim proved to be in the earth in those days, and also
after that, when the sons of the [true] God continued to have
relations with the daughters of men and they bore sons to them, they
were the mighty ones who were of old, the men of fame." (NWT)
To help answer what the Nephilim were, it helps to identify who the
"sons of the [true] God" were, mentioned in the scripture above.
Ge 6:1-3 tells of those "sons of the [true] God" mating with women.
Then in verse 4 it mentions the Nephilim, then after that verse it
goes on to say that those "sons of the [true] God" continued to mate
with women. So who were those "sons of the [true] God"?
They were not just human males, since the "sons of the [true] God"
offspring were "mighty ones" and "men of fame", thus somewhat
different than a normal offspring born from a man and a woman. Also,
why mention their marriage to the daughters of men as something
special? Marriage and childbearing had been taking place for more than
1,500 years. The same expression, "sons of the [true] God", also
occurs at Job 1:6 and 38:7, and it refers to angels. The apostle Peter
adds some more information at 1 Pe 3:19,20,
"In this [state] also he went his way and preached to the spirits in
prison, 20 who had once been disobedient when the patience of God was
waiting in Noah's days, while the ark was being constructed, in which
a few people, that is, eight souls, were carried safely through the
water." (NWT)
So Peter refers to "spirits" (angels) who were disobedient during
Noah's time.
Also, Jude adds this at Jude 6,
"And the angels that did not keep their original position but forsook
their own proper dwelling place he has reserved with eternal bonds
under dense darkness for the judgment of the great day." (NWT)
So to put in all together, apparently those "sons of the [true] God"
were rebellious angels who came down from Heaven ("their original
position") and had relations with human females. This was not a
natural thing to do since God did not create humans and angels to
mate. Thus it was a perverse thing they were doing. The Nephilim would
have been the hybrid offspring of such a mating. They would have been
superhuman beings having angelic fathers and human mothers. Thus they
could bully any humans they wanted, being superior to them. (the
Hebrew word "Nephilim" literally means "fellers," i.e., persons who
caused others to fall.)
I hope this has helped you.
Sincerely, James

The Nephilim would

superhuman beings having angelic fathers and human mothers. Thus they
could bully any humans they wanted, being superior to them. (the
Hebrew word "Nephilim" literally means "fellers," i.e., persons who
caused others to fall.)

I hope this has helped you.

I hope that you read my responses to vince garcia since I covered these
points and many more.
Not to be impolite, but I don't like repeating myself. If I come up with
some other points on this view, I'll look you up.

"The sons of God seeing the daughters of men, that they were fair, took
to themselves wives of all which they chose." Genesis 6:2
(Douay-Rheims)
Bible notes on this verse:
Gen 6, Ver 2. "The sons of God." The descendants of Seth and Enos are
here called "Sons of God," from their religion and piety: whereas the
ungodly race of Cain, who by their carnal affections lay grovelling
upon the earth, are called the children of men. The unhappy
consequence of the former marrying with the latter, ought to be a
warning to Christians to be very circumspect in their marriages; and
not to suffer themselves to be determined in their choice by their
carnal passion, to the prejudice of virtue or religion.
I hope this helps.

Why did you quote the Douay? Are you catholic? (Just curious)

Bible notes on this verse:

Gen 6, Ver 2. "The sons of God." The descendants of Seth and Enos are
here called "Sons of God," from their religion and piety:

Some might ask what the evidence is for their religion and piety since
only one family descended from this so-called 'religious' and 'pious'
line from Seth was saved in the flood.
That's not much to brag about.

Not really, unless you're into Augustine's teachings, which many are
.

Actually, "Sons of God" was a reference to the ones that did as they
were commanded by God. It was a common understanding of the day that
those who were sinless were blessed by God and those who were sinful
were cursed. Therefore, if you were righteous, God blessed you with
strength, healthy children, etc. Those nations that were considered
righteous were called "Sons of God". If you were sinful, you were
cursed with ailments and weaknesses. This is why Job's friends kept
telling him to repent of his sinfulness so that he could be restored to
wealth, health and happiness.
It had nothing to do with angels mating with humans. There is nothing
in Scripture that says anything of the sort.
