You didn't notice? I too have been "defending belief in God" for many
years in these NGs. However, what some good Christians don't realise is,
that these atheist god-haters are Satan's minions and their only purpose
posting here is to stop the mention of Jesus Christ. Their favourite method
is to go ad hominem and get Christian to talk about them instead of Christ.
There is nothing personal in that, for their only aim is get Christ to
become nothing more, than some obscure historical figure, not worth
mentioning.
Richard has a powerful, if not brilliant witness for Christ ...at times,
but then instead of continuing to uplift the glories of Christ, he wastes
his time imitating atheist trolls by listing deplorable personal qualities
of posters. But unfortunately the net effect is favouring the atheist

have decided to post.
I strongly recommend to all christians to continue posting in this forum and
not let a group of 'God-haters' to shut us out from our own forum.

theism and wouldn't even know enough to call themselves atheists. They are
like the graduates of our basically atheist educational institutions, who
pride themselves on knowing very little of anything, apart from acting out,
that is.

theism and wouldn't even know enough to call themselves atheists. They are

Something about the 7 trumpets and for those who still won't worship God are
going where?
Oh yes! I remember... the 'lake of fire' to burn for eternity...
Maybe these atheists want to burn or think they can run away from the
Almighty by closing their eyes and believing in NOTHING in hopes that the
reality of what they believe in will save them from judgement day.
As christians, all we can really do for them is pray that they will one day
worship Christ like normal people.

If one were to use knowledge, logic, and reason, one would come to the
conclusion that although there may be a supreme being and there may have
existed a man called Jesus Christ, that doesn't mean that the Bible is an
infallible souce of historically accurate data. The Bible was written by
men with specific agendas of their own and carrying on the word of God was
not necessarily one of them.

I think the error in that statement is the underlying assumption that I must
have a god or devil. My opinion about logic and reason has never changed, near
as I can tell. When I was a Christian I was confident that logic and reason
properly applied could never leave me astray, and I assumed that it would
likely only strengthen my faith. As far as I was concerned, Christianity was
the most logical and reasonable choice, so there was no need to trade one god
for another when it came to the conflict between god, logic and reason. Logic
and reason were no more or less my god or devil then than they are now, I
simply don't worship or believe in the Christian God anymore, the same way you
don't believe in the Hindu, Islamic, or "pagan" gods. I might disbelieve in
them for a different reason that you do, but the fact remains that you are just
as much an atheist regarding those gods as I am. Does that make you the minion
of the devils of those religions? No, of course not. And my having the same
opinion regarding your religion does not make me a minion of your devil. Not
believing in a particular God does not leave a hole in your identity or "soul".
If it did, Christians would have just as many holes as atheists, minus one.
Logic and reason are necessary but not sufficient conditions for truth, as I
see it. Nothing more, nothing less. The universe is not illogical. That is the
one premise upon which I build my concept of truth and knowledge. That does not
make logic and reason my god or devil, since no worship or praise is involved,
and I do not consider them sentient or foolproof. I do not talk to logic and
reason, I do not pray to logic and reason, I do not consider logic and reason
sufficient by themselves for the accumulation or acquisition of knowledge. They
are simply tools.
In this world, human beings are highly limited beings that can occasionally
prove something to be incorrect. All else is tentative. Based on what I've
read, heard and thought over regarding Christianity I consider it to be
disproven. Regarding the Christian God, I am a "strong atheist", meaning I give
my assent to the proposition that there is no Christian God. Regarding gods in
general I give my tentative assent to the proposition that there is no god.
None of this means that I must treat something else with the same type of
unequaled and exclusive admiration and awe with which you approach your God. I
do not have a god, I myself am not a substitute for a god, nor do I feel that I
need a god to feel complete or happy.
So, no, logic and reason are not my god or devil.
Does that make you
happier?
I am definitely happier now than I was when I was a Christian. Of course I am
also a lot older and more in control of my fate now too, and that might have a
lot more to do with it than any theological or philosophical set of beliefs.

I'm not sure what newsgroup you are referring to, since you cross-posted to
twenty bazillion, but if you feel compelled to express your enthusiasm and
devotion perhaps you ought to find ways to do so without hateful descriptions
of atheists that decide to post opposing viewpoints. Calling them satanists and
"god-haters" is about as hateful as you can get (not to mention ridiculous).
As for "our own forum" you are dead wrong. Usenet is a public arena organized
on the basis of topics, not who someone is. It is silly to post to newsgroups
like alt.bible and pretend that it is inappropriate to discuss the Bible there
unless one subscribes to Christianity. Usenet is not Christian, nor atheist,
nor anything else. If you want only Christians in a discussion, you should
start a moderated newsgroup.
Atheism has nothing to do with Satanism, and atheists are a very varied group
of people. Some of us have come to atheism through years of careful thought and
a careful evaluation of Christianity and our own past Christianity. Some come
to atheism as a reaction to something horrendous, like a molestation by a
priest. Some are really anti theists that truly "hate god" because they can't
let go of their theism (it is a very hard thing to do, a thing that few can
truly achieve) but refuse to believe that this universe could be the work of a
good being.
And in addition, some of us are appalled at the immorality of Christianity
itself and feel it necessary to speak out against it on moral grounds.
alt.bible and alt.christian.religion are a good place to do so.

What you hold holy is highly immoral. The whole basis of Christianity is that
you can get your "soul" into heaven simply by believing that 1) everyone
deserves to die for what they have done, even if the worst thing that they have
done is lie to their sister about eating a candy-bar.2) justice is had only by
killing a completely innocent person3) this sacrifice of a completely innocent
person only gets your "soul" into heaven if you believe it happened on your
behalf
Well, #2 is patently immoral all by itself. It is never moral to kill an
innocent person, for what someone else has done. So right there, the very root
of Christianity is disgustingly immoral. But look at the other points. #1 says
that everyone ought to be killed, no matter how little or how much their
actions have hurt others or themselves. A system of morality that applies the
ultimate punishment for everyone merely by virtue of their existence is a
twisted system of anti-morality, more fitting in a Satanist's system of belief.
#3 is equally immoral, as it condemns people merely on the basis of their
exposure to and willingness to believe in the myth of one small particular
group of people. How is it moral to believe that a person is condemned to hell
simply because they were born into a different culture with a different set of
beliefs? It isn't, it is in fact just a type of bigotry, and is thus highly
immoral.
Christianity originates in Judaism, which is a set of beliefs that one small
race of slaves were selected by God as his special chosen people, to the
exclusion of all other peoples, and that it was perfectly good for people born
into other races to be plundered, killed, and raped as that small race of
slaves moved into land held by these people of other races. That is a highly
immoral system of belief, because it is never moral to punish someone for
something they have no control over, like which race or tribe they are born
into.
Yuck. Christianity is such a repulsive pile of anti-morality that I can't even
continue without wanting to puke. All people of good conscience ought to fight
this system of belief and do what they can to peacefully remove it from this
planet. It paints as the height of morality those things that are the most
disgusting: scapegoating, human sacrifice, racism/bigotry, total submission,
irrational belief without evidence, lies, and symbolic cannibalism. The cross
is a vile symbol of a depraved morality, like the swastika. Holy? Some of us
don't see any proof that it is anything of the sort.
Lying is immoral. The biggest sign that Christianity is a system of lies is the
simple, quite observable fact that Christians, despite all their talk about
God's love and loving their enemies, and being full of the joy of Christ, are
not any happier or peaceful than people of other faiths or no faith at all. If
they really were transformed, or reborn, by belief in Jesus Christ, then there
ought to be easily identifiable signs of this. But until you actually get to
the specific topic of Christianity itself, it is impossible to tell a Christian
from a non-Christian. It is impossible even for Christians. I have very often
seen a devout Christian mistakenly believe someone else was a Christian, who
was not. "I bet you are a Christian, aren't you? I could tell by the way you
always stand up for what is right." "NO, sorry, but I am not."
"Oh, I could have sworn you were. You act like one."
These mistakes occur because the poor Christian that stumbles into them
believes that morality must necessarily derive from God, and not just any God,
but the Christian God. So when they see someone that is moral and upright, they
logically conclude that they must be a Christian. It is actually quite sad to
see a Christian make this kind of mistake, because they were set up for this
fall by the very system of belief they feel is protecting them, and they have
such a child-like trust in that system of belief that it is like seeing a child
learn their is no Santa Claus.
The cultural bigotry implicit in Christianity runs deep. This is exemplified
by many things and if I were to enumerate even just one tenth of them I would
be writing for decades, so let me choose just one example. Christians are fond
of singing and exclaiming how wonderful is "that name", by which they almost
always mean "Jesus". But a Jew that grew up in ancient Isreal speaking Aramaic
would never call himself by a Roman name like "Jesus" anyway. He would be
called "Yeshua", which is most accurately translated into English as "Joshua",
not "Jesus". But that silliness aside, very often Christians will say they
consider the name of God to be sacred, by which they apparently mean "Jehovah",
which is really supposed to be YVWH. These same Christians believe that Allah
is not a hallowed name, and that muslims are bound for hell because they don't
worship "God". The problem with that belief, and the reason that it is simply
cultural bigotry, is that "Allah" is simply the Arabic word for "God". The
cultural bigotry implicit in Christianity is even more apparent when it is
revealed that the god is Islam is the god of Abraham.

You didn't notice? I too have been "defending belief in God" for many
years in these NGs. However, what some good Christians don't realise is,
that these atheist god-haters are Satan's minions and their only purpose
posting here is to stop the mention of Jesus Christ. Their favourite
method is to go ad hominem and get Christian to talk about them instead
of Christ. There is nothing personal in that, for their only aim is get
Christ to become nothing more, than some obscure historical figure, not
worth mentioning.
Richard has a powerful, if not brilliant witness for Christ ...at
times, but then instead of continuing to uplift the glories of Christ, he
wastes his time imitating atheist trolls by listing deplorable personal
qualities of posters. But unfortunately the net effect is favouring the
atheist mandate, to stop the mention of Christ.
And as christians, we're perfectly within our limitations in defending
ourselves as well as a newsgroup designated for those who are devoted to
Christ.
I took some time to think about it, and truthfully, if they were
'atheist', they would not care twice about coming into any forum related
to God or even Satan.
And so, I concluded by determining through the nature of their messages
that they must indeed be satanists posing as atheists to try and cover
their own arguments.
Regardless of what or who they are, we have the right as 'fans' of Christ,
to come in here and express our enthusiasm and devotion towards Christ,
without the constant harrassment, slandering and discrimination that they
have decided to post.
I strongly recommend to all christians to continue posting in this forum
and not let a group of 'God-haters' to shut us out from our own forum.
