I think that anyone reading the New Testament would see it's a very
radical writing that places value on the poor and scowls at the rich.
Why is it that Christians voted heavily for Bush, who supports just
the opposite, and against Kerry? Do they not follow or understand
their own scriptures?

Why should Christians not be consistent? Prior to WW2 Christians supported
a certain A. Hitler indeed helping him on his way up the political ladder,
after WW2 again it was Christains who helped Mr Hitlers associates, the
ones being chased by the authorities for non payment of their by now huge
gas bills, to secretly move to South America and other (Christain?)
countries.
