Can one honestly remain Catholic (or a monotheist) after applying
reason to dogma?
For example, who am I to believe is telling the truth: The muslim who
worships Muhammad or the christian who says no, Jesus is the true
missiah? Let's assume both camps claim with equal vehemence. How are
we to conclude which is objectively true?
Does thinking critically about monotheism just undermine it?
From my own experience I've found reason to be an utterly destructive
force to the establishment of catholicism and perhaps more broadly
monotheism.

Yes, "reason" can be a problem for such type religions. I was raised
in one of them, and did find "reason" to be lacking at times. But the
Bible does say there is just "one faith". (Eph 4:5) And it wants that
"one faith" religion to use REASON when discussing religion things,
such as when the apostle Paul "reasoned with them from the Scriptures"
concerning religious things. (Ac 17:2)
Since the Bible set the precedent, that is how true Christians of
today also do it.
