You don't think trying to make Adam and Eve commit the first sin is
evil?
No, I don't. It was a test. How could they have made a right choice without
being offered a wrong one?
The serpent clearly knew what God had commanded, and attempts to
twist things so that Eve violates the commandment.
It's not that much of a twist, really. He says they'll know good and evil,
and be "as gods" in that respect, and they won't die from touching the tree,
all of which turned out to be true.

Jani,
There is also another explanation on what it means to be "as gods" and
to know good and evil. Knowing good from bad was clearly not the
problem here, since Eve quoted the command by God not to touch that
tree, and if she did, the consequences that would follow. (Ge 3:2,3)
So then in what way did Adam and Eve come to know good and evil after
they ate the forbidden fruit? In what way does God know good and evil?
God decides for Himself what is good and is evil. He defines the
parameters. So when Adam and Eve disobeyed God's clear prohibition
command, they were telling God that they would decide for themselves
what was really right and what was really wrong for them, thus they
became "as gods" in knowing good and evil.
Sincerely, James

Do you think God would ever be threatened by the eating of fruit? Are
you so naive as to think that the fruit itself was such a big deal?
It is the obedience, and the trial thereof which are important. You
cannot see whether a man will obey you unless he is able to disobey
you.

Has it ever occur to you that God is not an insecure control freak
desperately demanding people's obedience?
Did Jesus ever ask for obedience? No. He only asked for faith. Do you
know the difference between obedience and faith?
Obedience results mindless salves. Faith results loyal soldiers.
See the difference?

Adam and Eve were children of God. They were gods. By knowing good and
evil to become "as gods", they actually caused themselves to become
less than what they were, thereby became imperfect and vulnerable to
sin.
Disobeying God was not a sin until they attempted to run away from the
consequences of their action. Had they been wise enough to take their
responsibility, no sin would have been found.
Sincerely, James
