Most Americans have an unusually high opinion of Mormons. I know I did
before I started researching the dark-side of this nutty cult.

All you fine upstanding Satanists/Atheists who have been deluded by the
years of stupid television commercials (Family: isn't it about time?) and
PR from this cult, which purports to be so very concerned about children
and families have a rude awakening ahead. Read this garbage for a nice dose
of the reality of Mormonism, and prepare to be sick.

What makes you think we Satanists are at all deceived by Mormon
propaganda? My grandfather was Mormon and I have shitloads of
Mormon relatives, but I am not fooled by their cult for a
microsecond. I even almost got duped into joining that cult
after a Mormon befriended me years ago. She was sooooooo fuckin'
nice and friendly and just loved to blab about her cult. When I
made it clear that I wasn't going to convert she suddenly wasn't
so friendly and shortly thereafter I never saw her again (she
presumably went on to her next victim).
A recent episode of South Park totally trashed the Mormon cult.
They told the story of Joseph Smith, the Golden Plates, and the
magic rocks he used to translate them. I thought they were
exaggerating for effect when they showed Joseph Smith put the
plates and rocks into a hat and stuck his face in the hat to
read the translation. It turns out that was completely true!
I also learned that before his supposed revelation that led him
to found his cult, he had been convicted of fraud for telling
fortunes in exactly the same way (same hat and magic rocks).

Try to get a hold of "Under The Banner Of Heaven" by Jon Krakauer. He
tells the story of Joseph Smith quite well, intertwined with the story
of Mormon fundie cults-which are actually WORSE than normal fundie cults
(1 man has 14 wives!)-and the story of a couple members who recieved a
revelation from God to kill a bunch of people (yes, like that woman who
was told by God to murder her sons). Turns out that when Joe was 13 or
so his family was visited by a girl who told fortunes in the
hat-and-magic-rock fashion, which apparently inspired Joe to use the
same method to locate buried treasure-for a fee. He found approximately
zero buried treasures and was convicted of fraud. He then founded a
church. Logical, huh? :)
By the way, I was raised and baptized in the Mormon cult, but left when
I was 12. Recently my local "ward" found me and started sending me
fliers in the mail inviting me to renew my "testimony" (a verbally
stated belief that Joseph Smith's "revelations" are true). I haven't yet
told them to *****-I have better things to do.

But it was! Right up until they started the line about that one woman
- "smart smart smart smart smart smart". Then they dropped the
subtlety. Funny!
