I don't care much for the Catholic church-as-institution, but some of
the holiest, godliest, most Christlike and prayerful people I've met are
Catholics (Dom Helder Camara, for one)...

Yeah, well, I've met several who wanted nothing but to give me a blow
job. The crazy mixed up moral code has its roots in Judaism. For
instance, even in the Torah (to say nothing of the Talmud) it says
that Lot's daughters slept with their father to "preserve his seed."
This was considered perfectly normal, apparently. And yet, if you
made a false prophecy you were to be stoned to death. This was just
one among many of the petty crimes that warranted the death penalty.
No wonder the whole Judeo-Christian world is so screwed up.
