No, your spiritual discernment doesn't help. As Martin Luther

Perhaps, Yahweh wants us to be morons for Christ. And not to enjoy
immortality. Was it the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
Yahweh said was a no-no for Adam and Eve?. Or was he actually
worried that Adam and Eve would chomp into any knowledge
and gain access to the secrets of nature and even divine nature?
And Paul seems to insinuate that a happy Christian is a dumb Christian.
To wit God deems, according to Paul, secular philosphy as foolishness
in the eyes of God. And human learning is implied by its nature to drive a
wedge
a between Yahweh and his devotee. Why? After all God created
nature and also the human mind which through observation and
the rules of logic and the philosophy behind the scientific method
unlock the complexities and wonders of nature.. What's wrong with that?
Is God
jealous his evolved creatures might begin to gainsay the creator, himself.
Or is it really that the proponents of religion are the "jealous" ones
guarding their inner religious secrets so they are not too thoroughly
investigated by the skeptics and enemies of holy BS! Like, too often,
that spin master of holy machinations, St. Paul. What a class A fraud!
Doesn't know anything factual about his great hero, the ultimate Jew
just a little lower than God and, cough, cough, does'nt give a damn
either. Ignorance first class worshipped as a god of some kind.
Doesn't want anyone to be "spoiled" by human philosophy which of
course is possible when secular philosophies/systems claim too much.
But, to base one's authority and entire witness on a holy vision on the
way to Damascus (midday sun beating down on a guilt-ridden skull)
does not, by comparison, seem the smartest move in the history of
religion unless you judge merit by the number of misguided souls who
bought that party line hook, line and sinker. With emphasis on "sinker."

...The Lie...

"The serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die"

-- Genesis 3:4

"And the LORD God commanded the man,
saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil,
thou shalt not eat of it:
for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." (Gen.
2:16-17)

"And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years:
and he died." (Gen. 5:5)

So, the snake told the truth: he did not surely die
"in the day that thou eatest thereof", did he?

So, WHO WAS LYING?
YHWH ELOHIM or the Talking Snake?
The snake actually said (which you sneakily omitted to note)
"Ye shall not surely die:
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof,
then your eyes shall be opened,
and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."

Which is confirmed by YHWH himself, when he says:
"Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil..."
(Genesis 3:22).

In fact the man was not immortal to begin with. He needed to eat
from another of the magic fruits of the story, i.e. that of the
"tree of life". But YHWH in his jealousy evicted him from his
garden before he could eat it.
"and now, lest he put forth his hand,
and take also of the tree of life,
and eat, and live for ever...
So he drove out the man;
and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims,
and a flaming sword which turned every way,
to keep the way of the tree of life." (Rest of Genesis 3. KJV)
