#1 since this is a "recreation", it can't possibly recreate torturing
prisoners to the point of DEATH, and in several cases actually killing
them. So the re-enactment of such inhumanity for the sake of "trying
to approximate it" falls short.
#2 consequently, the film you are offering us all becomes little
more than "gruesome entertainment" for the worst of the voyeurism in
the worst of us.
If you want to TRULY bash me upside the head with a brick to show me
what a low-life *((&*(& *(&)&)87 George W and his boys are, you're
going to need to smuggle actual films of real torture, and be prepared
to show actual torture that eventuated in death.
For example, I watched the beheading (the first one) of the
journalist, "Daniel ???" by the hooded Al Quaeda thugs, for one reason
ONLY. I wanted to be as sickened as possible by the whole concept of
what is happening in Iraq right now.
MY point was that THAT atrocity may well explain why WE now commit
atrocities. There is something to be said for, "if they chop off our
fingers, then we gotta chop off their ......"
That is, when your enemy decides to escalate the brutality beyond
human imagination (dragging our captured behind cars until they're
dead and then letting the local dogs eat what's left)...
The alternative? Every time one of them _______'s one of ours, we
should throw 10 water balloons at 'em!
"That'll show 'em!"
What general said it? Patton? "War is HELL!"
General Schwarzkopf said "war is UGLY, BRUTAL business, and no soldier
in his right mind WANTS war!" or words to that effect.
We need to find better ways to fight (the fighting is not going to
end). In the interim, grab your stomach and look away.
