Hello,
If by "hell" you are referring to 'hellfire', the answer would be: It
would take a very cruel and sadistic god to do such things.
Even Hitler usually killed his victims before he burned their bodies.
Yet people profess the God of the Bible not only tortures living
people in a literal fire, but also never lets them die to end their
suffering! If they isn't sadistic cruelty, nothing is.
But real Christians know that the God of the Bible has not, is not,
and never will, use torture of fire or any other torture, to punish
his wicked children. The use of torture is for sadists, not a loving
God. (1 Jo 4:8)
Would a loving human father put a seriously disobedient child's hand
into a flaming fire as punishment? Neither would a person who is far
more loving than any human; Almighty God. (again see 1 Jo 4:8)
So where does Christendom get this sadistic teaching of 'hellfire'
anyway? It is misinterpretations of places in the Bible which refer to
humans being tossed into a fire. But if they carefully research such
verses, they will see that they are symbolic, not literal. (much more
on this is you want)
For instance, one example they use of this alleged literal 'hellfire'
place is Re 20:15,
"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into
the lake of fire." (KJV)
But back up one verse to see just how 'literal' this "lake of fire"
place is: Vs 14,
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the
second death." (KJV)
Notice the things tossed into that fiery place. One thing is "death".
Can death be picked up and thrown to another spot? Of course not.
"Death" is an abstract word representing a condition, and is not a
solid physical substance. Thus that "lake of fire" place is symbolic
of something, not literal. And looking again at vs 14, it even tells
us what that symbolic "lake of fire" place represents. It represents
the "second death". (more about what that is, if you want)
Thus anyone who uses the "lake of fire" as being a literal fire where
bad people are tossed into it to burn alive forever, have not done
their homework on what the Scriptures really mean.
Sincerely, James

A selfish god. A god who has an ego larger than anyone. A god who
insists on human and blood sacrifices with sexual slavery. And the
Jews can have him! I stick with the Messiah who freed us from the

Well then you worship a cruel and sadistic god, because the Bible
says that Jesus will be right there in the pit of hell with his holy
angels, watching people suffer for eternity...
Revelation 14:9-11
"A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: "If anyone
worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead
or on the hand, he, too, will drink of the wine of God's fury, which
has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be
tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and
of the Lamb."
Seems that your all-loving Jesus and his supposed holy angels will be
the ones dishing out the burning sulfur and flames on people, all the
while claiming to be "loving" god and angels.
That's the way scare tactics work in religions, to convert people,
though, so it's not surprising that you've fallen for the "Join Us or
burn in hell" mentality.
So where is hell, anyway? Can anyone see it?

There is nothing in the verses about hell; such an idea has to be added to,
and read into, what is being said. Additionally, the language being used is
highly symbolic, signified, given in signs. (Revelation 1:1) Most will at
once concede that if a literal worshipping of a beast and image were meant
in verse 9, then few, if any, in civilized lands are liable to the penalty
of verse 11. In other words, who would be deceived by a literal beast with
literal seven heads and literal ten horns coming out the literal sea?
(Revelation 13:1); and if the beast, his image, wine and cup are symbols, so
also would be the "torment:" {The word rendered "tormented" is in the Greek
a verbal form of the noun for touchstone), and smoke and fire and brimstone.
Revelation 14: 11 - and the smoke of their testing goeth up for ever and
ever; and they have no rest day and night, they that worship the beast and
his image, and whoso receiveth the mark of its name. -- Revised Version
(American Edition) Improved and Corrected from manuscripts discovered and
published to A.D. 1999 A.D. 2000
There is nothing here about hell (hades/sheol) or the condition of those in
hell. The fire and sulfur is symbolic of the wrath of God. Those who drink
of the wrath of God are not said in these scriptures to be in hell, but in
the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb. Of course,
since this is a symbolic book, and one needs to study spiritual revealment
with spiritual revealment (not by adding Grecian mythologies) in order to
see how these symbols apply.
The individuals spoken of here are not said to be cast into the lake of
fire, or into hades, but they are symoblically tried [basanizo* - literally
touchstoned, tested] and the smoke of their trial [basanismos*] ascends
forever and ever. Most people do not interpret the beast and his image as
being a literal beast with literal seven heads and literal ten horns and
crowns. (Revelation 13:1) Thus it is only the "torment" part which most wish
to focus on as literal in keeping with their teachings taken from Greek
mythology and blended into the scriptures.
We should note that the symbolic woman styled symbolically as Babylon the
Great (also symbolically called a city) will also be tormented [basanismos*,
tried, tested]. (Revelation 18:7,8) Those who look upon the smoke of her
torment [testing] are looking upon the refuse left by her destruction, for
she "shall be found no more at all. (Revelation 18:10,18,21) Yet her smoke
arises forever and ever after her destruction. (Revelation 19:3)

http://bible.crosswalk.com/Lexicons/Greek/grk.cgi?number=929
http://bible.crosswalk.com/Lexicons/Greek/grk.cgi?number=931
The scriptures under consideration are prophetic -- obviously a use of
signs: symbols. The symbolic smoke ascends forever and ever. Certainly the
beast with seven heads and ten horns is symbolic, as well as its image. We
know that the "lamb" is symbolic of Jesus. Likewise the "mark" is symbolic.
Additionally, the phrase "day and night" is symbolic of the fact that those
who worship the symbolic beast and symbolic image of the beast will be
symbolically tested without letup during the time of testing being spoken
of. -- See Revelation 4:8.
A side thought: if this is speaking literally of literal smoke in a literal
place of fire supposedly to torture these while they are dead but still
concious while dead, and of literal days and nights, then one would have
assume that this place of consciousness while dead would have literal days
and nights.
If this were speaking of a literal beast with literal seven heads and
literal ten horns coming out of the literal sea, very few would be deceived
into worshiping such. In other words, who would be deceived by a literal
beast with seven heads and ten horns coming out the literal sea? (Revelation
13:1) If the lamb, the beast, his image, wine, cup, etc., are symbols, so
also would be the smoke, fire, sulfur, brimstone, day and night, etc.
Without getting into details about what is symbolized by the beast, the
image, etc., one should be able to see that this is not speaking of anyone
suffering for eternity while dead.

Sins are an offense against an infinite God, so they require
infinite punishment.

The scriptures no where speak of "infinite punishment", whatever this is
supposed to mean. Taken as meaning unbounded, of course, if one is put out
of existence, such a punishment is infinite, unbounded by any future time,
in that it will never be revoked. All who are dying in Adam are covered by
the ransom sacrifice of Jesus. Those who die the second death, however, do
not have any more sacrifice that can be given for them. They are gone for
all the eternal future.
In service of Jesus and his God,
Ronald

Hello,
If by "hell" you are referring to 'hellfire', the answer would
be:
It
would take a very cruel and sadistic god to do such things.

Those who are cast into hell are those who CHOSE to follow and serve
the
devil, through sins, evil and wickedness, and thus will be cast into
his
kingdom with him, which is hell. They CHOSE to ignore, disobey and
rebel
against God, even though all mankind has been given due warning of
the
consequences of sin, unrighteousness and wickedness and yet they
CHOSE
evil anyway. Do you think choosing evil and sinning against God,
that
you
would DESERVE to be WITH Him in heaven?

I will when you prove there is no easter bunny or Santa Clause.
Believing in something because you cant prove he doesnt exist is a ilogical
reason. Otherwise whats stopping you from believing in Allah or Zeus? or
that Star Wars is real? you never know there could really be a death star
out there. Can you prove there isnt one?

How do you know George Washington or Julius Caesar existed?

Because, you moron, unlike your Jesus character, there are numerous
contemporary sources that attest to their existence.

They are also just.

Sins are an offense against an infinite God, so they require
infinite punishment.

There's no such thing as "sin" since it's just an invention of
religion which has no basis in reality.

A nominated post should mean something, shouldn't it? I mean, at
least as far as being a sentence? Ejecto's posts are seldom that
coherent. (The "so" doesn't belong anywhere in that sentence.)

I've watched several documentaries in the past year about hell,
and nobody in the videos actually came right out and asked that
question. Where is it? Why can't we see it? If nobody can see it or
point to it, why in hell should anybody believe in it?
