Re: What's wrong with fornication ?
Serious question. Why is Jesus against fornicating?
Let's face it, sex is fun. Sex with multiple partners can be great fun
(probably!). If it is kept "safe" and produces no unwanted offspring, whats
the problem these days?
David
David,
Yes, sex if fun. So is taking drugs to many. Thus just because
something is "fun" doesn't necessarily mean it is good for us.
Even when fornicators use precautions to prevent sexually transmitted
diseases and/or unwanted babies, such things do come along with
fornication quite commonly, despite the attempts at preventing them.
So why does God forbid it? One reason is mentioned by the apostle Paul
at Ga 5:19 when he refers to it as one of the "works of the flesh".
(KJV) Notice some of the other kin of fornication: "hatred", "fits of
rage", "jealousy", "drunkenness" etc. All of those things go contrary
to Christian qualities and are self-centered things rarely looking
after the interests of the other person. (see Mt 19:19)
Thus with fornication, unlike the love and tender affections usually
associated with the intimacies of marriage, fornication is many times
just self-centered passions seeking an outlet. That is why sometimes
you will hear the expression associated with fornication: "But will
you respect me the next day?" Such a statement is not said in the
marriage arrangement.
Fornication does not build up character, but tears it down, even being
degrading, such as to the female where she may be referred to as a
"*****" or "*****" etc.
No, Christians want to please God because God knows what is best for
the human body. God designed it and knows what is best for it. (see
Jer 10:23,24) And fornication is not one of those things that is good
for it. God provided marriage to be the outlet for sexual passions,
not fornication.
Sincerely, James

And it doesn't mean is tis BAD for us except in your diluded OPINION.

Biblical 'opinion' written by unknown ancient men over 2000 years ago of
poor education and
knowledge. Don't run your life based on the opinions of ancient people who
were poorly educated
and with no knowledge of modern science.
If you are seriouslly ill do not consult and ancient witch doctor, go to a
modern well educated medical
specialist!

Such terms and judgements are entirely cultural. Just because our
culture has no equivalent pejoritive term for males who sleep around
does not mean those we apply to women are justified. In a Matriarchilly
dominated society which practices polyandry such terms would not be
appropriate. I understand such a society still exists on one of the
islands off the coast of West Africa.
It is worth remembering that your cultural referents might not be
absolute. This is not to say all things are relative, just that some
things may be.
