I know this is a huge daunting question, but when I consider the Bibles
that I currently own, I feel like I am missing something.
Can anyone suggest what Bible I should be reading? I've heard one of my
friends say she wishes she had a New International Version (NIV) Bible,
and I also here that the King James Bible is the best.
On the other hand, those like Pastor Dave say (I think) that the NIV is
no good because it's a modern translation, and others say that the King
James is only used by fundamentalists.
In short: what Bible to you prefer, and why?
Also, I may consider buying a Study Bible instead of or with a new
Bible, and was wondering which of those may be the best?
Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm going to repost this, because I think it didn't get through to the board
the first time (I seem to have difficulties there on occasion), but I'm
going to keep it short just in case.
A good study Bible, with numbers, charts, and whatnot is the New Oxford
Annotated Bible With the Apocrypha, and it is the NRSV. It contains
introductions from various textual scholars. I haven't seen the 3rd
edition, but I can vouch for the 2nd.
If you can, it would be best to get a commentary, for a study Bible cannot
contain all the pertanent data. Commentaries, however, are rather
expensive, especially the best ones.
Yes, the NIV is a critical text, as are most modern versions. These compare
multiple texts and select what they think the best readings are.
Sorry for the brevity, but you got my email, no doubt, and this may be a
repost of similar data, so I'm keeping it at a minimum.
