Perhaps the Bible is not true?...
It doesn't really matter whether the Bible is true.
I would think that it would matter if any religious
book were true. Whether there's a god or not and
whether it wants anything from us would be important
information.
A true book that nobody ever read would have no effect in the
universe. A false book that benefited all of humanity would do
great good.
I hope you aren't implying that the bible has been
a force for good. Like any tool, its been used quite
liberally and effectively for both good and evil.
So what's more important? Truth or Good?
You act as if this can be answered, but the answer
would depend on the individual. Some folks would
rather be lied to than told the truth, others
would rather know the truth than be lied to. Since
there is no objective answer, it would depend on the
individual.
In general, my observation is that most folks would
rather be lied to than told the truth (Hairsyle,
Outfit, Reason they didn't get the job, etc.).
However, I feel they would benefit more from the
truth they avoid.
Similarly, they'd rather just go on believing there's
an afterlife rather than have it confirmed there's not.
It helps aliviate their fear of death.
However, if the truth were known and it was found out
there isn't a deity, then we could take all that money
currently wasted on religion and put it into scientific
endevours supporting outerspace/immortality. Perhaps
allowing the race to survive our Sun's eventual
supernova and/or perhaps keeping folks body's from
breaking down due to age (a possibility since other
things built using DNA don't die of age).
As always any opinions I may have written above are mine and mine alone.
Dave.
