Who will be allowed into heaven's doors?

Who gets to go to heaven?
For many Christians in today's increasingly inter-religious world, it's
no longer an abstract question but a personal one about to whom they're
married or whom their children are dating.
''It becomes viscerally impossible to consign everyone who doesn't
belong to my religion to the fires of hell,'' said John Thatamanil,
assistant professor of theology at the Vanderbilt University Divinity
School. ''We're put in a very uncomfortable position. ... We feel
obliged to exclude people because that's what the Bible teaches.''
Christianity traditionally has taught that one must commit to Christ to
enter heaven. But Thatamanil says that's only one interpretation of the
Bible, and there is evidence that early Christians believed Christ to
be at work in other faiths. As the world grows more diverse and
Christianity loses some of its dominance, the debate over who goes to
heaven is growing.
Thatamanil will present three different positions on the issue - only
one that says salvation is exclusive to Christians - at a community
breakfast next week and four-part education series beginning later this
month. He acknowledges that some might accuse him of diluting the
Bible's message but says most of his students have been relieved to
hear his teachings.
''People breathe a sigh of relief,'' said Thatamanil, who attends St.
Augustine's Episcopal Chapel on the Vanderbilt campus and has taught
there and at other area Episcopal congregations. ''When people see I
don't have to believe that my spouse is lost or my son-in-law is
damned, and I'm not watering down the tradition, that this is just
another way of understanding the religion, it actually comes as a big
relief.''
The verse John 14:6, in which Jesus says, ''I am the way and the truth
and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,'' is
well-known. But Thatamanil points to the book of Revelation, which
talks of healing among nations.

Jesus spoke only in parables and everything He says has a spiritual
meaning ONLY. (Mt:13:34-35). John 14:6 therefore means that no one comes
unto the Father but the Son, and the Son is he who loves the Father and is
one with the Father in mind and spirit, and therefore does the will of the
Father. Christ's whole gospel is devoted to showing what the will of the
Father is and how to be a Son unto the Father.
The parallel in the Baghavad Gita is Arjuna asking Krishna: Who is
closer to the truth, he who seeks to know Brahman in every detail, or he who
seeks to love and venerate Him with all his mind and heart. Predictably
Krishna aswered: The Bhakti who loves God with all his heart is closer.
Jesus is the arch-typical Bhakti, spending much of His life in loving
prayer, worship and veneration of His beloved Abba, -daddy, His Father which
is in Heaven, and always seeking to do His will. What Jesus meant by John
14:6 therefore is, that only those who do the same as He does, will come
home to the Father which is in heaven.
In conclusion then: On earth we are like prodigal sons in a foreign
land, but such a devotee truly goes "home" in the here-and-now, as well as
in the hereafter.

SONS OF GOD
Jesus in Jn:8:35-36: And the servant abideth not in the house for ever:
but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall
be free indeed.
Jesus in Jn:15:15: Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant
knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all
things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
Jn:1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become
the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Rom:8:14: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons
of God.
Rom:8:19: For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the
manifestation of the sons of God.
Phil:2:15: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God,
without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among
whom ye shine as lights in the world;
1Jn:3:1: Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us,
that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us
not, because it knew him not.
1Jn:3:2: Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear
what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like
him; for we shall see him as he is.
