I had no religious upbringing at all. I attended college in the Bible
Belt. Hearing week after week how I'm a useless sinner who is going to
burn in Hell for all eternity got a little old the first time heard it.
Never mind the 100th. That seems to be the fundamentalist Christian way
of "witnessing".
I had Catholic friends who were a little more sane and shared their faith
with me. Today I would classify myself as a "liberal Protestant".

Jesus discussed witnessing to his followers at Mt 28:19,20,
"19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am
with you always, to the very end of the age." (NIV)
Thus the command to all of Jesus' followers is to go to the whole
world ("of all nations") make disciples, and continue to teach them
Jesus' words which leads to baptism.
Even in the time of the end (which many believe is now), Jesus said
his true followers would be doing a specific thing. (unless Jesus was
lying) Here is what it has to be according to Jesus. Mt 24:14,
"And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as
a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." (NIV)
Notice that a particular preaching campaign must be ongoing. And it is
not just local to one place, but is "the whole world". The theme of
that preaching campaign is the "kingdom" of God. Thus in the last
days, you MUST find a group of Christians preaching about God's
"kingdom" globally. Of course it is going to take considerable
expense, as well as a highly organized religious group to take such an
undertaking. But nevertheless, according to Jesus, it will take place
just as he said.
Interestingly, that same preaching theme was used in the first century
by Jesus and his apostles. Lu 8:1,
"After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to
another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve
were with him," (NIV)
So it should be no surpirse that Jesus would lead his true followers
in the time of the end, to preach that same kingdom message. (it is
the same "kingdom" you pray for in the 'Lord's Prayer--see Mt 6:10)
Thus when you find the Christian religious organization Jesus was
referring to at Mt 24:14, you have found his real true followers among
all those professing to be.
And by way, yes those words of Jesus at Mt 24:14 are being fulfilled
globally, even as we speak.
