Re: Why does the bible condone rape and sex slavery?
Can someone explain to me why the bible and God condones rape and sex
slavery?
NU 31:31-40 32,000 virgins are taken by the Israelites as booty.
Hello,
There is no mention here that they were to be raped, or used in sex
slavery.
DT 20:13-14 "When the Lord delivers it into your hand, put to the sword
all the males .... As for the women, the children, the livestock and
everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves."
Again, there is no mention here that the woman were to be raped, or
used in sex slavery. None.
DT 21:10-13 With the Lord's approval, the Israelites are allowed to take
"beautiful women" from the enemy camp to be their captive wives. If, after
sexual relations, the husband has "no delight" in his wife, he can simply
let her go.
Notice here that the Israelite male had to MARRY her. Thus there is no
rape or sex slavery here. They are husband and wife. And as a wife,
she had certain rights. Yes, divorce was permitted, but it was highly
regulated. Notice some details here:
"Furthermore, a man could not divorce his wife without due cause. He
had to write her a formal certificate of divorce. This would require a
public authority as witness and would very likely be done before the
city elders, to give it official authorization. This provision, along
with the further law that the man could not remarry this wife if she
married another man who later died or divorced her, was a deterrent to
hasty or frivolous divorces. (Deut. 24:1-4) Moreover, the certificate
of divorce provided legal evidence of the woman's remarriageability.
It protected her from the charge of prostitution or adultery.-Compare
Deuteronomy 22:13-21." (1976 Awake! magazine, 1/22, p. 27.)
And one more thing to consider. By western standards, forced marriage
is repulsive. But to many Orientals, it is the expected ways of their
culture.
So in summary, NOWHERE in the Bible does God condone His servants
raping, or using woman as sex slaves. That is a false accusation not
founded on Scridpture.
Sincerely, James
