GOD CAN NOT LIE
Really how serious is sin?
To Read: Revelation 1-3
To Know:
"In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new
covenant in my blood.'" (1 Cor.11: 25)
It was a Saturday morning and I was on my way to a college soccer game when
a car whizzed by me on a sharp curve that it could not possibly navigate. In
my rear view mirror a frightening scene unfolded. The speeder had missed the
turn, driven over a lawn and plowed into the front door of the house on the
bend. Although it looked like an atomic explosion, what I saw was plaster
and wallboard being pulverized. What, I thought, was happening to the
occupants of the car? Not especially attracted to the sight of blood, I did
not want to stop and go back. Nevertheless, I reversed direction and drove
to the crash site. To my utter amazement there was not a drop of blood
anywhere to be seen. Four men in the car were coming home from an all night
party and the same drinks that made them miss the turn had made them so
loose that not one of them was injured. When I pulled up, they were
staggering out of the billowing dust still singing drinking songs.
Blood is not pleasant to see. It isn't meant to be. Blood makes the gruesome
nature of sin graphic.
To Do:
Blood ran freely during the Jewish Passover. The blood of sacrificial beasts
virtually poured off the mountain of sacrifice where once God rescinded his
order to Abraham that he slay his son. Sin is serious. It is treason against
heaven. Living the Christian life is nothing less than resisting sin to the
point of shedding our blood. If we considered our Christianity being a
living sacrifice would the world not take our Lord more seriously?
To Ask:
Father, strengthen my resolve to walk the way of self-sacrifice for the sake
of your son.
