With rising gas prices, new groups of people must decide between gas or
food.
March has been another record month for Redding Loaves and Fishes, with
over 500 bags of groceries going out to those in need. We are
desperately in need of volunteers to go out into the community to seek
food and monetary donations, so we pray to the Lord of the Harvest, to
provide more workers.
The Daughters of The British Empire Hosted a food drive for Redding
Loaves and Fishes, Saturday, March 25th, which was a wonderfull
success. Also the Wm Richmond Mariners of First Presbyterian Church,
Redding, invited Redding Loaves and Fishes to present an informative
discussion about the Food Bank ministry, and its charitable mission in
Northern California. The Richmond Mariners are a group that meets
monthly for fellowship, direction, and service to the Church and
community. The group uses a nautical theme, and officers are called
Skippers, First Mates, Logkeeper, Purser, Chaplain, Pharmacist Mate,
and Chief Signal Hand. The motto is: "Christ is our Pilot, the Bible is
our compass-the guide for safe and purposeful cruising, and Our Church
is our Anchor" Meetings alternate between the church for a potluck
luncheon oer a local restaurant. Twenty-two members attended the March
meeting at the Country Waffles Restaurant. R.L.&F. would like to thank
Charles and Francis Evans, (Skippers), and the rest of the Mariners for
a delightful brunch , and opportunity to share the mission and ministry
of Redding Loaves and Fishes.
Also a big thank you to the generous students of Turtle Bay School, and
Trinity Lutheran School and Pre School, for their food drives during
the month of March. Levi Clifton, student at Turtle Bay School, was the
driving factor that not only generated food for those less fortunate,
but also by his example, affected another class to collect food for the
Good News Rescue Mission. Way to go Levi !!
Denise Kilgore, of Trinity Lutheran School and Pre-School, reported
that parents of children were unaware of how great the need is here in
Redding and Shasta County. Over 20 bags were collected, and more will
be collected in the future.
