EARLY 2007 SAW RECORD-BREAKING EXTREME WEATHER: U.N.
By Laura MacInnis Tue Aug 7, 8:40 AM ET
GENEVA (Reuters) - The world experienced a series of record-breaking
weather events in early 2007, from flooding in Asia to heatwaves in
Europe and snowfall in South Africa, the United Nations weather agency
said on Tuesday.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said global land surface
temperatures in January and April were likely the warmest since records
began in 1880, at more than 1 degree Celsius higher than average for
those months.
There have also been severe monsoon floods across South Asia, abnormally
heavy rains in northern Europe, China, Sudan, Mozambique and Uruguay,
extreme heatwaves in southeastern Europe and Russia, and unusual
snowfall in South Africa and South America this year, the WMO said.
"The start of the year 2007 was a very active period in terms of extreme
weather events," Omar Baddour of the agency's World Climate Program told
journalists in Geneva.
While most scientists believe extreme weather events will be more
frequent as heat-trapping carbon dioxide emissions cause global
temperatures to rise, Baddour said it was impossible to say with
certainty what the second half of 2007 will bring.
"It is very difficult to make projections for the rest of the year," he
said.
HEALTH CRISIS
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a U.N. umbrella
group of hundreds of experts, has noted an increasing trend in extreme
weather events over the past 50 years and said irregular patterns are
likely to intensify.
South Asia's worst monsoon flooding in recent memory has affected 30
million people in India, Bangladesh and Nepal, destroying croplands,
livestock and property and raising fears of a health crisis in the
densely-populated region.
Heavy rains also doused southern China in June, with nearly 14 million
people affected by floods and landslides that killed 120 people, the WMO
said.
England and Wales this year had their wettest May and June since records
began in 1766, resulting in extensive flooding and more than $6 billion
in damage, as well as at least nine deaths. Germany swung from its
driest April since country-wide observations started in 1901 to its
wettest May on record.
Mozambique suffered its worst floods in six years in February, followed
by a tropical cyclone the same month, and flooding of the Nile River in
June caused damage in Sudan.
Uruguay had its worst flooding since 1959 in May.
Huge swell waves swamped some 68 islands in the Maldives in May,
resulting in severe damage, and the Arabian Sea had its first documented
cyclone in June, touching Oman and Iran.
Temperature records were broken in southeastern Europe in June and July,
and in western and central Russia in May. In many European countries,
April was the warmest ever recorded.
Argentina and Chile saw unusually cold winter temperatures in July while
South Africa had its first significant snowfall since 1981 in June.
The WMO and its 188 member states are working to set up an early warning
system for extreme weather events. The agency is also seeking to improve
monitoring of the impacts of climate change, particularly in poorer
countries which are expected to bear the brunt of floods, droughts and
storms.

Yep, Ice age is coming. Start getting ready for it.
What, you expected the end of days, a la Revelations?
Sorry, Jesus told his followers he was coming back nearly 2000 years

There have been no time in history when such a "prophecy" didn't come true.
All of the "end time" fairly tales have been coming true since the day after
they were written.
In recent time both SDA and JW sects were formed because the world was going
to end.
It didn't and teh people in power found they had a good thing going so they
kept working it.

You are a fulfillment of prophecy.

of the creation.

JERRY
Yep, except it ain't gonna happen. The Second Coming and Judgment Day
was supposed to happen during the lifetimes of the disciples.
MATTHEW 16 (KJV)
16:27
For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his
angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
16:28
Verily I say unto you, THERE BE SOME STANDING HERE, WHICH SHALL NOT
TASTE OF DEATH, TILL THEY SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING IN HIS KINGDOM.
1 THESSALONIANS 4:15 (NIV)
According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that WE WHO ARE STILL
ALIVE, WE WHO ARE LEFT till the coming of the Lord, will certainly
not precede those who have fallen asleep.
Hebrews 10 (NIV)
36
You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you
will receive what he has promised.
37
For in just a VERY LITTLE WHILE, "He who is coming will come and WILL
NOT DELAY.
JAMES 5:8 (KJV)
Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord
DRAWETH NIGH.
I PETER 4:7 (KJV)
But the END OF ALL THINGS IS AT HAND: be ye therefore sober, and watch
unto prayer.
I JOHN 2:18 (KJV)
Little children, it is the LAST TIME: and as ye have heard that
antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; WHEREBY WE
KNOW THAT IT IS THE LAST TIME.
REVELATION (KJV)
1:1
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto
his servants things which must SHORTLY COME TO PASS; and he sent and
signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
1:3
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this
prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the
TIME IS AT HAND.
3:11
Behold, I COME QUICKLY: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man
take thy crown.
22:7
Behold, I COME QUICKLY: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the
prophecy of this book.
22:12
And, behold, I COME QUICKLY; and my reward is with me, to give every
man according as his work shall be.
22:20
He which testifieth these things saith, SURELY I COME QUICKLY. Amen.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
++++++++++++
MATTHEW 10:23 (NIV)
When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I TELL YOU THE
TRUTH, YOU WILL NOT FINISH GOING THROUGH THE CITIES OF ISRAEL BEFORE
THE SON OF MAN COMES.
COLOSSIANS 1:23 (NIV)
if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from
the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard
and THAT HAS BEEN PROCLAIMED TO EVERY CREATURE UNDER HEAVEN, and of
which I, Paul, have become a servant.
Romans 10:18
"Their voice has gone out into the all the
earth, their words to the ends of the world."
Matthew 24:14 (NIV)
"And this gospel will be preached in the
whole world as a testimony to all nations,
AND THEN THE END WILL COME."

JERRY
Now, that ice age on the other hand....

GLENN
Go stand in front of a mirror, and gaze on the fulfillment of prophecy
looking back at you.

JERRY
Silly Glenn. The bible doesn't have fulfilled prophecy. You only
need to read of the failed prophecy of the destruction of Tyre in
Ezekiel chapter 26 to know that. Or, you can look at the failed
prophecy of the Second Coming.
However, we HAVE had ice ages since Jesus' time, and will again. It's
a cycle.

Two things, Jerry: first, your reply is partly atheist libel of God's
Word mixed with a preterist misinterpretation of scripture/prophecy...
Second, as you said in another post, "... but one thing I am absolutely

Two things, Jerry: first, your reply is partly atheist libel of God's
Word mixed with a preterist misinterpretation of scripture/prophecy...

JERRY
Nope, Preterists believe that the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple
approximately 70 AD was the return of Jesus he spoke of in the verses
in Matthew I quoted you. I don't believe that at all. To a
Preterist, Jesus DID come back, it's done and there won't be a
Judgment Day later.
I simply don't believe that Jesus came back from the dead, much less
will ever return for the so-called "Second Coming."
The verses showing Jesus was supposed to come back during the
lifetimes of the disciples are so many and so clear that you have to
rationalize an explanation to continue to believe it. I don't
rationalize to support a belief. I will leave that to you.
As for "atheist libel of God's Word," let's remember that everything I
claim, I can and have backed up in the free.christians newsgroup and
others.
If the god of the bible is omniscient, omnipotent, knows the past,
present and future down to the falling of the sparrow,
If the god of the bible created everything, loves his creation and
wants us to come to him of our own free will.
If the god of the bible inspired/dictated the bible as HIS word to his
creation in order to bring them to him of their own free will
Wouldn't, shouldn't that word reflect the perfection of this deity?
If the bible contains errors, serious errors like failed prophecies,
like historically inaccuracies, like contradictions in the text
between the various books that are reporting the same event, then that
book does not reflect the perfection of this perfect deity, correct?
IF we have errors that are this serious in the text, then have some
possibilities:
1. God DOES exist but is not all powerful, can't protect his word,
therefore the word can't be trusted.
2. God DID exist but no longer does, can't protect his word, is not
all powerful and therefore the word can't be trusted.
3. God never existed, the words are the words of men who wrote down
stories they believed and other men accepted those words without
question and therefore the word can't be trusted.
It's not my fault that the bible isn't true and can be proven not to
be true, Glenn. I am just the Messenger, not the Message.
Any way you cut it, if the bible contains the kind of serious errors I
can show exist in the text, you can't trust it.
Now, you CAN trust it and believe in it if you want, but that speaks
more to your state of mind than it does to the power of the deity.
You believe because you want to, not because there is really a reason
to believe.
And your reasons for believing, because it feels right to you, are no
different than the reasons that ANY person gives for their belief,
whether Muslim, Christian, Hindu, etc.

GLENN
Second, as you said in another post, "... but one thing I am absolutely
positive of is that the bible is not the word of any god."

Therefore I see no benefit in any attempt to communicate with you.

"Pearls to swine" comes to mind, as does Heb 6:4-8.

JERRY
Ah, but who is throwing the pearls and who is really the swine? ;-)
