Sleep
So in sleep and after death, activities and experiences go on. Some of our most
vivid and exciting experiences take place in sleep. Many of us have had dreams
more vivid than anything that's happened to us in this life. Certainly
comparable to anything in this life.
First, we would say, sleep is a shadow of, that intermission in earth's
experiences of, that state called death…
(This is why Jesus said the damsel is only sleeping...)
Sleep, that period when the soul takes stock of that it has acted upon during
one rest period to another, making or drawing, as it were, the comparisons that
make for Life itself in its essence, as for harmony, peace, joy, love,
long-suffering, patience, brotherly love, kindness, these are the fruits of the
Spirit.

more vivid than anything that's happened to us in this life. Certainly
comparable to anything in this life.

Sleep, that period when the soul takes stock of that it has acted upon

during

one rest period to another, making or drawing, as it were, the comparisons

Hello,
The first use of the word "soul" in relation to a human is at Ge 2:7,
"And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into
his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. [nephesh]"
(KJV) (my brackets)
Notice the man wasn't 'given' a soul, but when he started to breath he
BECAME a soul. Thus a soul is a whole person, and when a person dies, so
does the "soul".
Yes, a soul is not 'immortal' as religions teach. Eze 18:4,
"Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of
the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die." (KJV)
Also, the Bible says that when a person dies, they cease to exist. Ec 9:5,
"For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they
have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten." (NIV)
Also notice Ps 146:3,4,
"3 Do not trust in princes, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. 4
His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; In that very day his thoughts
perish." (NASB)
So concerning a "soul" and the condition of the dead, should we believe
those Scriptures of God above, or go by man's teachings?
To help with that, here is what Jesus said about those Scriptures above. Joh
17:17,
"Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth." (NIV)
Sincerely, James
