the bigger picture? |
These are basically half-baked thoughts, based on Hal Lindsay's last two
television programs, that I feel blessed to share with those less ignorant
than myself.
On the first show, Linday said he thinks that Israel will strike a
gigantic pool of oil. I presume he thinks this is why, in the bible, Israel
is attacked by foreign nations. This seems more understandable in the light
of steeply rising oil and gas costs, and the dependence of major nations on
Middle-East oil reserves. But why would the nations wish to invade Israel
and not the Arab nations that have major oil fields? In yesterday's show,
Lindsay said that the majoroil fields are already very close to peak
production, which means their reserves will decline along with the supply of
oil. So perhaps Israel will discover amassive pool of untapped oil, while
every other oil field is declining in production.
But some other possibilities to my mind are that: (1) a geological
uplift may cause all the oil in the middle east to drain down under Israel,
although I don't know if this is geologically possible.
Or perhaps Israel will find some cheap way to manufacture oil
synthetically out of carbon dioxide or something, but will not share the
patent so that they can have some decent income for themselves.
Or maybe Israel will switch to an alternative energy technology, which
wil make them energy independent, and other nations will attack them just
for spite, since they can't keep them under their thumb.
Another possibility, mentioned in the second show by Lindsay, is that
radical muslims will gain control of the Middle East oil. Although he did
not speculate, perhaps these muslim oil-kings will force any nation that
wants to have affordable oil to oppose or even attack Israel. Maybe Israel
will find and sell oil cheaper than the Middle East suppliers.
In the second show, Mr.Lindsay, who grew up in Louisiana, talked some
about Hurricane Katrina. He attributes the increased hurricane epidemic, not
to fossil fuels, but to an increase in the heat of the sun over the last 100
years. Interesting. Doesn't this period just about coincide with the Zionist
movement and immigration to Israel?
He also spoke of signs in the sun, moon, and stars as having some
prophetic significance. Such signs are referred to more than once in the
jewish scriptures, but may be figures of speech.
Luke's mention in Lk 21.25c of the waves roaring seems impressively
unique, until one realizes it is not unique, but is mentioned in Haggai 2.6
"shake the sea."
If one interprets signs in the sun, moon, and stars literally, then Mr.
Lindsay's mention of the sun heating up over the last 100 years is very
interesting indeed. But what signs in the moon and stars would remain a
mystery to me. All I know is that the moon probably split off from the earth
due to a collision with a body about the size of Mars - but that was more
than 100 years ago. The stars probably weren't formed that way. My
grandparents didn't mention it.
In the second program, Lindsay, as I recall, says that Jesus spoke about
an antichrist that would control the word. But, so far as I recall, there is
nothing in the gospels about an antichrist.
So what's the 'bigger picture?' The bigger picture would be that God's
wrath is rising gradually to a crescendo against the nations, and that it
has something to do with antisemitism or else for not meeting expected
standards of conduct. Or something else.

"Theology and ethics are inextricably bound together.
Yet under the supposed banner of unity, we have
harbored enemy ships - as long as they flew our flag.
That policy must change. Tolerating enemies of the
historic Christian faith as though they were our
brethren is not love, but adultery. The substance
of the faith is the only basis for unity."
