LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Metro police have made an arrest in the Cesar "Ivan"
Aguilar-Cano homicide case.
Cecil Eugene New II, 46, a convicted sex offender, has been charged with
murder in the death of the 4-year-old boy.
The boy disappeared from outside his family's apartment near Churchill Downs
on June 29. A city trash collector found the boy's body in the back of a
truck eight days later.
Shortly after the discovery, a search warrant was issued for New's home,
which is located directly behind the apartment complex where the boy lived
with his mother. According to the search warrant, police were able to
identify where the trash container had been picked up.
New has been on the Kentucky sex offender registry since 2000 after his
conviction on a sodomy charge involving two youngsters.
Publicity surrounding the search prompted New's attorney to hold a news
conference to say that New couldn't return home because his safety had been
jeopardized.
New moved from the south end to west Louisville.
In September, investigators confirmed that New was a suspect in the boy's
death, and that they were awaiting DNA testing on evidence.
Louisville Police spokesman Phil Russell said New was arrested Wednesday
morning and charged with murder.
