SUTTON, N.H. -- Investigators with the state police major crimes unit
continued on Thursday night to scour a home where police discovered the body
of a newborn baby boy.
Police officers could be seen searching outside with flashlights and inside
the home on Gile Pond Road in Sutton.
Officers first responded to the residence on Thursday afternoon, blocking
off the driveway with yellow police tape.
"At this time, I can tell you a call came into the Sutton Police Department
advising it to check the residence, and they responded immediately," said
New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Charles Keefe. "The Sutton Police
Department discovered the body of a newborn male."
Investigators would not release any other details about what may have
happened to the child.
Neighbors said a woman lived in the home with her adult son and his family.
"We are aware of the family members in the house. We know who the mother is,
and the investigation is proceeding," said Keefe.
A woman who contacted News 9 and identified herself as being close to the
family said that something went wrong during the birth. She said that the
mother of the baby was taken into emergency surgery at a local hospital. The
woman could not provide details about what might have happened to the child.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on the baby on Friday
