JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A teenage student in Jacksonville broke her neck in a
fight at a high school, according to WJXT-TV.
Billanna Lee, 16, a student at Lee High School has a broken neck -- her
fourth vertebrae is cracked and doctors are planning to operate, the report
said.
Billanna's mother, Jacqueline Lee, said she has questions about exactly what
happened before and after the high school fight.
"She's been in incidents in school before, but not to this extreme," Lee
said.
Billanna and several other students were involved in a fight on the school's
campus. She told her mother that an administrator broke up the fight and
that's when she heard a snap.
"Her head came this way and cracked. She said, 'Mommy, I heard it crack. My
neck is broke," Lee said.
Billanna is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday to repair her fourth
vertebrae.
Lee has stayed by her daughter's side since she checked into the hospital,
but she said she's upset because she believes she should have heard about
the fight and her daughter's injury sooner than she did.
"Two other people had to call my house to tell me that my daughter was
injured before she even had a chance to use the telephone," Lee said.
Lee said administrators never called her house, and that her daughter had to
sneak to use a phone to call home.
However, the principal of Lee High School, Denise Hall, said the school did
notify Billanna's mother.
"We called her mother and let her know where she was going and then her
mother met her there," Hall said.
Hall said they made the call after they called rescue.
"We did have a student complain of her neck and like any other student, if
they complain of something injured or hurting, we called rescue," Hall said.
She said fights happen in high school, and it's part of their job to do
whatever they can to keep every student safe.
"School is not a place for violence and if it happens on school campus we're
going to deal with it," Hall said.
Lee said she expected it to take at least three months for her daughter to
recover. (THE COLD-HEARTED SACK OF ***** CHRISTIAN GOD CAN'T HELP HER BECAUSE
