KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Nebraska State Patrol has identified the five people
killed over the weekend when their pickup truck crossed the median on
Interstate 80 and collided with an oncoming pickup.

A mother and her two young sons from Denver Maria Avalos, 32, Alexandro
Ulloa, 3, and two-month-old Avan Ulloa were killed in the crash, along
with two adults from West Valley, Utah Rafael Castro Recendez, 34, and
Ortensia Julio, whose age was not known.

The Denver family and the two Utah adults were in a Ford F-150 pickup,
along with 35-year-old Vincent Ulloa of Denver, who was injured in the
crash. Ulloa was married to Maria Avalos and the father of the young boys
who were killed; he underwent surgery and was reported in serious
condition on Monday.

State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said Monday the relationship between
the Denver family and the two other adults was not immediately clear
although Recendez and Julio are believed to be related to the Ulloas.

The Ford pickup was going west on Interstate 80 shortly before 3 p.m.
Sunday, just west of the Shelton overpass, which is 19 miles east of
Kearney.

Freezing drizzle had coated the area and may have contributed to the
crash, Collins said.

The Ford pickup crossed the median and clipped the left rear of an
eastbound car. Then the pickup collided with an eastbound Dodge pickup.

Kenneth Husted, 48, of Lincoln, and his 13-year-old son, Ross, were in a
Dodge pickup truck. The patrol said they were hospitalized in Kearney with
multiple fractures.

Investigators said the drivers of both pickups were wearing seat belts,
but no one else was.
