Object: The gifts of the Spirit that ended a long, long time ago... but not really... 1 Cor.12:28
some people post here claiming to be apostles and prophets, and
there's a fellow in Rome who thinks he's an apostle...
1 Cor. 12:28 reads :
" And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second
prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings,
helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. "
indeed, God did appoint apostles and prophets... and certain apostles
wrote the Epistles which constitute our Bible. the Bible is finished.
but the Word of God is not finished... anyone can open a Bible and
read it with all prudence and reverence and God will speak to him by
His Holy Spirit. Joh. 16:8-11
in this manner, the Word of God is " the Book of this prophesy "
( Rev. 22:10 ) which is given to the saints to " build you up and
give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. "
Acts 20:32
the Bible word ' apostle ' means ' someone who is sent.'
Jesus Christ Himself is The Apostle of our confession ( Heb. 3:1)
having been sent by the Father to bring the good news of salvation to
lost sinners. Joh. 6:57
in like manner, the Lord Jesus sent His chosen band of disciples into
the world to preach repentance and forgiveness of sins through Him
Mt. 28:16-20 and Him only... Acts 4:12
what followed as proof that these sent ones were indeed sent by God
are the many attesting signs and wonders which even the most
blasphemous heathen admitted that these things were authored by God.
Joh. 3:2 Acts 8:9-24
since the signs of an apostle are having seen our Lord 1 Cor. 9:1 yet
many have seen the Lord but not all who have seen Him have been set
apart in the church as apostles. Paul goes on to say that an apostle
is manifested to the church by "all perseverance, in signs and
wonders and mighty deeds. " 2 Cor. 12:12
those today claiming to be apostles are certainly sent ones... but not
by God. they have not seen the Lord. upon examination of the gospel
they preach it becomes clear that they preach a gospel of works for
the remission of sin... that old social gospel of ' making a decision
for Christ ' through some patented sinners prayer designed to give the
glory to man for the decision.
man is not saved by the will of man ( Joh.1:13 ) man does not choose
Christ ( Joh. 15:16 ) even believing in Christ is the work of God
( Joh. 6:28, 29 ) and, believing is by appointment only. Acts 13:48
only the signs of power recorded in the Holy Scripture which
accompanied the preaching of the Word are acceptable to the elect of
God and all of these signs of power are attested to be absolutely true
by the Holy Spirit who preformed them through the living faith given
to those whom God elected to save.
by the indwelling Holy Spirit the chosen ones know what is of God and
what is of the devil. ( Joh. 15:26 ) the ones claiming to be apostles
these days testify of themselves, not of Jesus Christ, when they claim
salvation through their social gospel of the good work of ' accepting
Jesus as their Lord and Savior. '
again, man is not saved and never saved by the will of man.
( Joh. 1:13 ) simply because this gives man the boast of being saved
by the good work of turning to Christ ' of his own free will ' as they
like to put it.
the dead human spirit of man is at war with God and can never be so
inclined to gain or contribute to his own salvation by some act of
positive volition towards Christ. Ro. 8:7 Joh. 6:65,66
" salvation is of the Lord " ( Ps. 3:8 ) through unmerited favor
( Eph. 2:8 )... when man ' makes a decision for Christ ' God owes him
something. in this is the boast. the credit for the doing goes to
man.
such is the spirit behind the apostles of today. they have raised no
one from the dead. they have given no sight to the blind... no
hearing to the deaf. the lame are still lame. they only draw
attention to themselves by the boast of their salvation by the will of
man gospel attested to only by the gibberish they claim is speaking in
tongues... which anyone can fake.
in conclusion, God has kept His Word by providing to the called out
assembly of believers apostles and prophets who have attested, by
signs and wonders, to the gospel of Jesus Christ they have been sent
to preach... and still are preaching... through the written Word, by
signs and wonders of power already preformed, which the elect know for
certain are true by God's Holy Spirit who is given to us.
